History

2021: Softline bought software licensing business from Squalio

On September 10, 2021, Softline announced the acquisition of a software licensing business from Squalio. Thanks to this transaction, the buyer will enter the Baltic market. The financial side of the agreement is not disclosed.

Squalio CEO Sandis Kolomenskis will continue to lead the licensing business with the support of Softline. This business accounted for 98% of Squalio's revenue in 2020.

According to Kommersant, citing a Softline statement, the deal with Squalio is consistent with the plans of the IT solution provider to further expand business in Europe. In 2020, Softline increased the share of its international business to 45% due to both organic growth and mergers and acquisitions. For example, Softline entered the Western European market in December 2020, acquiring German Softline AG, and then acquired Indian Embee Software.

According to the managing partner of the LETA Capital fund, Alexander Chachava, the Baltic market is very small, it has a small potential, but the acquisition looks logical for the Softline business model.

Softline cannot yet afford to enter the highly competitive markets of the United States or China and supports the rate of business growth at the expense of small countries, he said.
