2023
Appointment of Yuri Mironenko as the new head of Gosspetsvyaz
At the end of November 2023, Yuriy Mironenko was appointed the new head of the state service of special communications and information protection of Ukraine. The former head of the department, Yuri Shchigol, and his deputy, Viktor Zhora, were dismissed from their posts on November 20, 2023. The Ukrainian authorities opened a criminal case against them on charges of embezzlement of budget funds in the amount of 62 million hryvnia (more than $1.7 million). Read more here.
Dismissal of an executive amid a corruption scandal
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dismissed the head of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection (Gosspetsvyaz) Yuriy Shchigol and his deputy Viktor Zhora, who were suspected of embezzling budget funds. Russian Armed Forces destroyed the space communications station of Ukraine
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation liquidated the space communication station of the government communications center of Ukraine, located near Odessa. This was reported to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation on October 18, 2022.
During the day, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continued to strike with high-precision long-range air and sea-based weapons on the military command and power systems of Ukraine, as well as arsenals with foreign-made ammunition and weapons. All designated objects are hit, - said the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov on October 18, 2022. }}
It is specified that the destroyed station was located in the area of the village of Palievka. This village belongs to the Belyaevsky district of Odessa region, located about 20 km north of Odessa. The head of the regional administration Maxim Marchenko also reported on the attack of drones in the Odessa region. According to him, the infrastructure object was damaged, however, he did not specify which object was in question.
Since October 10, 2022, Russia has been launching missile attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure. As reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the goals are objects of military control, communications and energy systems. The strikes followed a terrorist attack on the Crimean bridge, which, according to the president, Russia Vladimir Putin was staged by the Ukrainian special services.[1]
Four heads of service eliminated by missile strike of Russian Armed Forces
According to media reports, as a result of a missile strike by the Russian Armed Forces on the Ukrtelecom building in Dnepropetrovsk on October 10, 2022, four high-ranking employees of the State Service for Special Communications and Information Protection of Ukraine were liquidated.

Control over the "Spetsvyazh" of the Ukrainian armed forces back in 2021 passed to experts in cybersecurity of the US Department of Defense. Official Kyiv considered then that the transfer of special communications under the control of the Pentagon would allow rebuilding the cybersecurity system to protect critical infrastructure in Ukraine.
