2024: Approval of the creation of the SEZ
On March 9, 2024, the Russian government approved a decree on the creation of a special economic zone (SEZ) of the Sistema industrial and production type in Mordovia. The total investment of enterprises on this site will amount to more than 33.3 billion rubles.
SEZ "Sistema" with an area of more than 100 hectares and the industrial park "Svetotechnika" with an area of 49 hectares will be located in Saransk and on the territory of the Lambir municipal district of the Republic of Mordovia. These are the former sites of the Lisma plant. The project provides for the construction of engineering, transport, social and other necessary infrastructure until 2026. Resident enterprises will create 775 new workplaces. Graduates of the National Research Mordovian State University and Mordovian State Pedagogical University, as well as other specialized universities and colleges, will be involved in the SEZ.
On the territory of the SEZ JSC "Optical Fiber Systems" plans to place a full-cycle plant for the production of telecommunication and technical optical fiber. It is expected that this will make a tangible contribution to import substitution in the field of telecommunications. In addition, as noted by TASS, the National Gas Company intends to implement an investment project for the production of "container plants" for low-tonnage chemistry. Medal will form on the basis of the SEZ industrial production of pulp from rapidly renewable raw materials. GSPGT Saransk plans to build a small-scale plant for liquefied natural gas and cryo-gas station infrastructure, and the Center for Hydrogen Technologies is implementing a project for the production of equipment in the field of hydrogen technologies and hydrogen power.
The head of Mordovia, Artem Zdunov, says that the creation of a special economic zone in the republic is one of the strategic tasks for the development of the region and the country as a whole, as well as one of the most important measures within the framework of the program of socio-economic development of Mordovia for 2022-2026.[1]
