History
2023: Launch of a RUB 3 billion venture capital fund to support technology for electric vehicles
In August 2023, a venture capital fund worth 3 billion rubles was launched in Russia to support technologies for electric vehicles. This is a joint project of the TechnoSpark group of companies and the Foundation for Confident Technologies of the National Technology Initiative.
Key objects for investment will be technologies of metal-ion cells, batteries, traction and stationary energy storage systems based on them, engineering and production of electric propulsion infrastructure facilities, development and introduction of new materials, as well as startups in the hydrogen sector.
The term of the fund, created in the form of an investment partnership, will be 9 years. As the TASS agency reported on August 16, 2023, citing its source, the first funds will go to the fund in the next two months. It is planned to support high-tech projects that are priority for the state, "said Dionis Gordin, director of ensuring the technological sovereignty of the NTA Platform.
In the new fund, for the first time, we combine the technological competencies developed both in TechnoSpark and in the projects of the National Technological Initiative, "says Ruslan Titov, head of the TechnoSpark board of directors, quoted in a press release dated August 16, 2023. - Over the past year, we have seriously advanced in the topic of electric propulsion, we are growing startups in the field of charging infrastructure, components for it, energy storage systems. TechnoSpark became a shareholder and technological partner of Hyper, which creates an ecosystem of electric transport in Russian regions. We see in the new industry not only the technological challenges that our team can solve, but good profitability. That is why in the new fund we abandon the traditional model for Russia with a regular management fee.[1] |
2022: Investment Venture Fund Launch
TechnoSpark launches its first own investment venture fund - Technospark Ventures I. This was FIOP announced on July 21, 2022.
The volume of the Fund will approach 3 billion rubles by 2025. Its target yield could reach more than 25% per annum (IRR). Investors can join the Fund with ultra-small checks from 50 million rubles.
The mandate of this fund involves investing, including at the earliest stages, when a company is just being formed to develop technology or create a product.
Technospark Ventures I will consider investments at all further stages of startup development, including in the company without revenue at the stage of bringing the technology and product to the prototype, and in projects until the developed business model appears.
The fund will operate on a deal-by-deal basis, inviting partners to make a decision on entering each specific project at their discretion. Projects that were originally created and developed in the TechnoSpark network will be offered to investors primarily on exclusive terms.
Our venture building model is initially built on the equal sharing of risks with partners. This principle will remain in the Fund - it will not have a traditional model for Russia with a regular management fee. We focus on earnings only together with investors Technospark Ventures I. The investment focus of the Fund includes projects in the field of decentralized and alternative power, electric transport, new materials, medicine, new electronics and mathematical modeling. But we do not greatly limit the sphere of interests of the fund, the main thing for us is those products and companies that cause the greatest interest among investors, - said Ruslan Titov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Technospark. |
2013: Opening of the Trinity Nanotechnology Center "TechnoSpark"
Chairman of the Board of ROSNANOAnatoliy Chubais, General Director of the Infrastructure and Educational Programs Fund Andrei Svinarenko and Minister of the Moscow Government, Head of the Department of Science, Industrial Policy and Entrepreneurship of the city of Moscow Alexei Komissarov, as well as heads of IMEC, Dow Chemical Company and the Technology Transfer Center of Leuven University took part in the opening ceremony of the Trinity Nanotechnology Center "TECHNOSPARK." The total project budget is 1.6 billion rubles, including RUSNANO investments in the amount of 900 million rubles. The project partners were also Russian and international commercial and research organizations, including the IMEC micro- and nanoelectronic center, the technology cluster of the city of Leuven (Belgium), as well as the Center for Physical Instrumentation of the Institute of General Physics named after A.M. Prokhorov RAS (IOF RAS).
As of November 2013, there are already more than 20 launched startups in the nanocenter portfolio. Next year, their number should rise to 40.
The nanotechnology center "TECHNOSPARK," created on the basis of research and educational institutions of the city of Troitsk, is a platform for the launch and development of new technological startups and a multifunctional complex for the development and production of products of a number of innovative sectors of the economy. The creation of a nanocenter on the territory of Troitsk is due to the high concentration of large research centers in the city, which makes it possible to launch knowledge-intensive experimental and small-scale production of nanotechnology products on their basis in a short time. Nanocenter "TECHNOSPARK" is a production complex consisting of three buildings with a total area of more than 8.5 thousand square meters, two of which have already been put into operation.
The main specializations of the nanocenter are: applied laser technologies (for medicine and industry), new materials (including carbon and composite materials, as well as optical coatings), technologies for the use of artificial diamonds, new electronics (including solutions for modern consumer electronics), as well as instrument making, industrial design, prototyping and technological engineering.
A distinctive feature of the TECHNOSPARK nanocenter is partnerships with international companies and research centers, which allows us to integrate startups into global technology chains from the very beginning. For example, sources of extreme ultraviolet radiation, which are being developed by the resident of the EUF Labs nanocenter, are now being integrated into the lithographic equipment of the Dutch company ASML, whose customers are all the world's largest chip manufacturers, including Intel, TSMC and GlobalFoundries. Such equipment allows you to overcome the current technological limit and produce microcircuits with topological norms less than 20 nanometers.
Another project of the nanocenter is the Polarus company, with the participation of partners from the University of Arizona, it creates picosecond lasers used to process materials and label products, for example, smartphone cases, tablets and microcomputers. Another resident company - SVD. Park, within the framework of its specialization in the field of new materials, is developing diamond detectors, which will be supplied in conjunction with radiation therapy equipment of the American company Varian Medical Systems, Inc.
In addition, within the framework of the TECHNOSPARK nanocenter, an industrial design center has been created, whose specialists have a full range of competencies in the field of engineering, modeling and prototyping. One of the startups is Protostudia, which specializes in robotics design and already has successful experience in the industrial design of short-range unmanned aerial vehicles.
