Terroir
All Tsimlyansk vineyards, due to their geographical location and climate characteristics, are sheltering, their uniqueness lies in the absence of the need for intensive treatment with chemicals during ripening, which makes it possible to call Tsimlyansk wine organic. The Don viticulture zone is located on the right bank of the Don. From 350 to 450 mm of precipitation falls per year. Soils are chernozems and dark chestnut, but in the subsoil and, especially on the slopes, limestones begin from a shallow depth. The growing season is sufficient for the grapes to mature completely, but the danger is the early autumn frosts that occur in some years.

Among those rescued from the flooding zone are the unique indigenous varieties Tsimlyansky Black, Plechistik and Krasnostop Zolotovsky, which do not have a genetic relationship with well-known European technical varieties.

Residents of the Khazar fortress Sarkel, now at the bottom of the Tsimlyansk reservoir, grew grapes and produced wine. The first documentary mention of the Tsimlyansk wines dates back to the time of Emperor Peter I, who, after visiting the house of the disabled in Paris, sent 20 barrels of Tsimlyansk red wine as a gift to the veterans of Louis XIV.
