MVS Group bought 51% of the company
A controlling stake in the Tula Distillery 1911 (TVZ) came under the control of a new owner - a former co-owner of a company for the production of road safety systems. According to the SPARK system, from December 27, 2024, Iosif Shalmiev, who previously owned a stake in MVS Group, acquired 51% of the company's shares.
According to RBC, after the transaction, there was a significant redistribution of shares between the shareholders of the distillery. The share of the former majority owner Dmitry Gitelman decreased to 29%, while JSC "Regional Corporation for Development and Support of the Tula Region" retained its stake in the amount of 20%. Prior to this transaction, the plant's ownership structure included two main participants: Gitelman, who owned 80% of the shares, and a regional corporation with a 20% stake.
By December 2024, Tula Distillery 1911 is among the key players in the Russian strong alcohol market. The production facilities of the enterprise allow the production of a wide range of alcoholic beverages under their own trademarks, including vodka "Festive," "Starley" and "Bear."
A significant part of the plant's production program is contractual bottling of products for international partners. In particular, at the TVZ facilities, strong alcohol is produced for Bacardi, including such well-known brands as Oakheart rum and Bosford gin. Such cooperation indicates a high level of technological equipment and compliance of production with international quality standards.
It is noteworthy that in July 2024, the previously announced deal to acquire Dmitry Gitelman's stake in Ladoga, which showed interest in the assets of the Tula manufacturer, did not take place. The new property configuration with the participation of Joseph Shalmiev, who has experience in managing the technological business as a co-owner of MVS Group until 2018, opens a new stage in the development of one of the oldest distilleries in Russia.[1]
Ladoga bought Tula Distillery
On April 3, 2024, it became known that the Ladoga group, which is one of the largest importers and producers of alcoholic beverages in Russia, entered into an agreement on the purchase of the Tula Distillery 1911. There is no information on the estimated amount of the transaction as of the specified date.
"Tula distillery 1911" is one of the oldest enterprises in the Tula region. It was founded in 1911. The plant has five bottling lines with a total capacity of 6 million decaliters of distillery products per year. The company is also engaged in contract bottling, and its partners include the Bacardi group, for which the Tula plant produces Oakheart rum and Bosford gin. The plant also produces vodka "Festive," "Starley," "Bear" and a number of other alcoholic beverages. As of the beginning of April 2024, 80% of the enterprise belongs to Dmitry Gitelman, the remaining 20% - to the Development Corporation of the Tula Region.
According to RBC, Veniamin Grabar, president and main owner of the Ladoga group, which produces Tsarskaya vodka, Barrister gin, Armator rum, Fowler's whiskey and other alcoholic products, agreed to acquire the Tula distillery 1911. Ladoga is actively developing new categories, and therefore the group needs additional production facilities.
Vadim Drobiz, director of the Center for Research on Federal and Regional Alcohol Markets (CIFRRA), notes that the advantage of the Tula plant is its advantageous location in terms of logistics. Plus, the Tula Distillery 1911 is one of the most modern in Russia. According to investment banker Ilya Shumov, the cost of the enterprise is 2.2-2.5 billion rubles, and taking into account the potential for business growth, the real figure may be "much higher."[2]
