2023: Port privatisation

In January 2023, the seaport was privatized for the first time in Ukraine. We are talking about the state-owned enterprise Ust-Dunaysk Seaport, located on the shores of the Black Sea in the city of Vilkovo, Odessa region. The port is at the mouth of the Danube River, which separates Ukraine and Romania.

The State Property Fund of Ukraine announced the sale of the port of Ust-Dunaysk in private hands for 201 million hryvnia ($5.7 million). Eight potential buyers participated in the privatization online auction, the starting price of the port was 60 million hryvnia (about $1.6 million).

As the Forbes Ukraine edition clarifies, the Ust-Danube seaport was privatized by the Vinnytsia company Elixir Ukraine.

By January 2023, the port is actually operating at 5% of its capacity, the department said. The property complex of the port includes:

  • port in the city of Vilkovo, Odessa region;
  • portopoint Kilia in the city of the same name;
  • service base for special ships of lighter carriers on Shabash Island.

Loading and unloading operations are carried out in the port point of Kilia, located on 54 km of the Danube River. The passport depths at the berth are 3 m, the actual depths are 1.5 m.

In 2022, the Ukrainian government approved a list of 420 state organizations that will be further liquidated or privatized. Later, the Ministry of Economy explained that 354 state-owned enterprises will be liquidated or reorganized, and 66 will receive new owners, after which production will be resumed or modernized.[1]

2022: Port up for privatization

The port of Ust-Dunaysk resumed work on April 1, 2022 after blocking the ports of Odessa and Nikolaev.

In the first three quarters of 2022, MTP Ust-Dunaysk received UAH 848 thousand in net profit. Tax payments amounted to UAH 9 million.

On December 22, 2022, the port was put up for privatization.

1977: Port Opening

The port "Ust-Dunaysk" was opened in 1977. The first regular line for the transportation of goods between Bulgaria, Hungary, Czechoslovakia and the USSR was launched in December 1978.
