MobileIron works at intersection of mobile technologies and security – two hottest problems of the present. The company specializes in development of solutions for mobile device management. Products of vendor provide protection of corporate data which are used on smartphones and tablets, help to control expenses on wireless communication, keep track of activity of users and their work with mobile applications.

According to Gartner, solutions of the developer are leaders of 2011 in a quadrant of Mobile Device Management Software. The company is founded in the fall of 2007. The main office is located to Mountain View, the State of California, the USA. Also MibileIron has offices in the Netherlands and India.

The number of users of mobile devices in the world exceeded 5.3 billion people that makes about 77% of the population of the planet. At the same time only less than 4% of owners of the mobile phones, smartphones and tablets implemented in 2010 set on them security aids (the research Canalys October, 2011), and the number of the threats directed to mobile platforms, meanwhile, was tripled. Smartphones, handhelds and tablet computers became the integral instrument of communications in many domestic companies. However most the enterprises have the minimum idea of what happens to their mobile devices today and as they are used. The lack of effective management corporate to smartphones and tablets and the low level of data protection which to be stored or is used on these devices, do them by a weak link of IT security of the enterprises and quite often become the reason of big financial losses.

Being under pressure of recent trends and business needs, IT services of the companies are forced to resolve to use to the employees personal mobile devices for office activity. Thus, having got access to corporate e-mail, confidential corporate data and business applications, users continue to use actively them to suit the own ends: download games and applications, to communicate on social networks, to be engaged in web surfing, to be connected to resources of doubtful orientation and reliability. Such situation requires implementation of special security policies of data and control over use of mobile devices.

Emergence in the market of the specialized solutions providing the necessary security level of corporate data, centralized operation and accounting of actions of employees when using office and personal mobile devices became the response to increase in number of new IT threats.

The solutions MobileIron support all main mobile operating systems (BlackBerry Apple iOS, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Palm WebOS and Android). IT services of the enterprises by means of these products can manage numerous security settings, in particular, politicians of purpose of passwords, enciphering, blocking of applications, video cameras and memory cards on devices, connection to different services (Wi-Fi VPN Exchange, POP/IMAP, etc.), work with certificates and other. Besides, mechanisms of correction of settings of mobile devices, inventories of a hardware and program part, management of parameters of remote cleaning of confidential data, a self-service portal for users and the deep versatile reporting are provided in solutions.

By the beginning of 2016 MobileIron works at the Russian market through partners among whom - Informzashita and Orange Business Services.

History

2020: Ivanti purchased MobileIron for $872 million

On September 28, 2020 it was announced sale of MobileIron of the Ivanti company specializing in creation of software solutions for systems management, security and processes. The cost of the transaction is $872 million.

According to terms of agreement, shareholders of MobileIron will receive from Ivanti $7.05 of money for each security belonging to them that is 27% more than a quotation rate of the decision maker for control of corporate mobile devices to closing of the exchange on September 25, 2020.

Closing of the transaction is planned on the fourth quarter. The Board of Directors of MobileIron approved acquisition and recommended to shareholders to vote to make the same.

The software developer for mobile device management in MobileIron companies is sold for $872 million Ivanti company

MobileIron - developer of management tools security of end devices in corporate environments. Founded in 2007, the company was a pioneer in the field of protection of mobile devices. MDM- the MobileIron platform enjoys wide popularity around the world. Among her clients - NASDAQ The Blackstone Group, Flixbus, Standard Life Aberdeen, Aston Martin Lagonda Global Holdings and also Management of information support U.S. Department of Defense and the Ministry agriculture USA. In 2015 the agency Gartner placed MobileIron in upper right area Magic Quadrant - i.e., carried to number of market leaders.

However already by the beginning of 2016 the share price fell up to 4 dollars; only two years before when MobileIron went public, the share price was 9 dollars. As a result in the company the chief executive was replaced.

In the summer of 2020 in the MobileIron MDM platform also the critical vulnerability allowing remote start of any code was detected. Vulnerability received assessment of 9.8 of 10 points on a scale of CVSS. Correction was released in June, 2020, however in September, approximately at the same time when it was announced the preparing MobileIron acquisition by Ivanti corporation, there was an exploit, and cybermalefactors began to attack actively networks in which vulnerability was not timely corrected. Reached that state administrations on cyber security of the USA and Great Britain had to publish special danger warnings which is represented by this vulnerability.

Whether this scandal affected the transaction with Ivanti, it is unknown.

Along with MobileIron, the Ivanti company purchased the cybersecurity developer of the solutions Pulse Secure. The cost of this transaction does not reveal. Ivanti purchases Pulse Secure at child structures of Siris Capital Group investment company.

Having included the products MobileIron and Pulse Secure in a portfolio of Ivanti, the companies will be able to manage and protect users, devices, data and access to cover all equipment in the organization and to provide at the same time the contextual personalized approach for employees, the press release says.

After the declaration of sale of MobileIron of a stock of the company rose in price for 6%. Since the beginning of 2020 of quotation of vendor rose by 37%.[1]
