IT for effective power in Russia "brake"

Christian Korff, the director of Cisco Borderless Networks Architecture, claims that large western system integrators consider the direction of power management as an essential part of the business in the next two-three years.

According to Korf, in community of resellers and distributors there was a significant shift concerning technologies of power management and reasonable use of energy, and even the most conservative of them more and more openly perceive innovations of this sort. Many large partners attract small task forces to increase the competence of this question, he says.

Actively also large vendors take part in creation of products of power management. For example, recently the Cisco company announced that it selects power management as one of strategic directions. Within it the company selected a number of specialized vendors as partners and announced accreditation for resellers according to the EnergyWise SMART PDU program.

And several technology partners use open API Cisco that makes their products available to the third parties. The company expects that their number will increase. Among current partners APC (Schneider Electric), provider of physical infrastructure for data centers and also smaller players in the market of management of energy are already provided: Cyber Switching, Raritan, Server Technology and WTI.

It expands possibilities of use of Cisco EnergyWise technology for devices without clients, such as printers, copy machines, media displays and also data centers in general. The new platform gives the chance to create the solution which control electricity consumption for all devices in racks and also for all other corporate devices which need power supply.

According to respondents of TAdviser of system integrators, in Russia solutions of such level and demand for them, owing to features of mentality of the Russian business are not presented yet while it is not too big. "Nobody tried to integrate data on energy consumption of all network devices in one management tool yet", - Ruslan Zayedinov, the head of DPC of Croc company commented on Cisco initiative.

It is interesting that not only computers and servers, but also the devices receiving a power supply on network, for example, IP phones participate in the technology offered Cisco in measurements, the expert told. If it is possible to integrate monitoring of energy consumption of the climatic and other engineering systems into such tool, then really universal remedy of management will turn out. There will be an opportunity to manage energy consumption within all company, and not just on segments: computers, DPC, conditioners and so on and also to reach real economy and to monitor it in a report type, Ruslan Zayedinov explained.

Certainly, at the Russian market there are solutions for energy management: it the devices not only controlling decrease in electricity consumption, but also and which are engaged in the analysis and optimization of all chain of the resources necessary for development of the necessary quantity of electricity. But, the expert of Open Technologies companyDenis Andrikov says, the relation of the domestic market to an initiative of "green IT" "deserves the special comment".

Situation exactly such is that the commonly accepted relation to energy stocks in Russia means that they "are boundless" though it and is not true. "Initiatives of foreign producers in the field of energy consumption economy at best are perceived with a smile. So the current implementation of similar solutions if can be found, then only for the purposes of decrease in accounts for the electric power", - Andrikov noted.

Experts agree in opinion that if the Russian business and moves towards technologies of energy saving, then only especially for reasons of economy of costs. Here often in the course appear not only saving solutions, but also other rationalization technologies, such as virtualization which allows to give full-time job a part of servers to the maximum, and the released resources to disconnect, told in NVision Group.

In general the companies found it difficult to estimate a share of technologies of energy management in the Russian IT market and do not do any "disruptive" forecasts concerning this class of solutions.
