2024: Sentence - 3 years in prison for trying to take Russian military drone Zala abroad

On November 8, 2024, the Savyolovsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Alexander Nerush, General Director of the St. Petersburg company Kadry production, and Fathi El Hadi Juan, a native of Libya. They received three years in prison for trying to take technologies abroad that could be used to create weapons and military equipment.

According to the case file, Juan, being a citizen of the Russian Federation, maintained close ties with Libyan law enforcement officers. After the start of a special military operation, he was actively interested in unmanned systems produced in Russia. He paid special attention to the products of Zala Aero Group, in particular, the Zala 421-16T apparatus: this drone has resistance to radiation from electronic warfare and air defense systems and is adapted to control the area in both civil and military spheres.

The investigation found that the organizer of the attempt to export the Russian drone was Juan, who had "extensive acquaintances in the Libyan diaspora of St. Petersburg" and maintained "close relations with employees of the Libyan Ministry of Internal Affairs." Nerush, who was a Libyan partner until 2017, agreed to help Juan - in 2008 they co-founded a company engaged in development in the field of natural sciences.

The defendants were found guilty of committing a crime under Part 3 of Art. 30 h. And 3 Art. 189 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation - preparation for illegal export from the Russian Federation of technologies, scientific and technical information that can be used in the creation of weapons and military equipment. The defendants pleaded guilty. As a result, the court sentenced everyone to imprisonment for a period of three years with serving a sentence in a general regime colony. The men have been taken into custody in the courtroom.[1]
