2025: Appointment as CEO of Deposit Insurance Agency
On December 24, 2025, the Bank of Russia announced the appointment of Alexander Zhdanov as the new CEO of the state corporation Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA). It is specified that this decision was made by the Board of Directors of the DIA. The agency itself confirmed the appointment.

Alexander Zhdanov will officially begin his duties as head of the DIA from January 13, 2026. Before heading the agency, he worked for the Central Bank for more than 20 years in various positions, and since June 2017 he headed the Financial Recovery Department of the Bank of Russia.
Andrei Melnikov, whom Alexander Zhdanov replaced as general director of the DIA, has held this position since the beginning of 2022. In October 2025, Melnikov was accused of embezzling about 4 billion rubles during the operation of the Akvamir water park in Novosibirsk and arrested for two months. According to RBC, Melnikov was detained after his former deputy Olga Dolgoleva, who oversaw legal issues at the DIA, testified against him. She was detained in the spring of 2025, she is charged with complicity in fraud. Melnikov's lawyer insisted on his innocence.[1]
