Biography
Gennady Gladkov was born into a family of hereditary Moscow musicians. His grandfather accompanied Ruslanova herself on the accordion, and his father played the accordion and button accordion in the Tsfasman jazz orchestra, one of the best bands in the USSR.
His childhood passed in the very center of the capital, not far from the Moscow Art Theater, where he ran as a boy to watch performances and became addicted to the theater stage for life. The same craving in it was supported by the school teacher Fried and the conservatory professor Fere, who themselves were the authors of many popular operas, ballets, etc.
Gennady Gladkov received a classical musical education at the Central School of Music, a school, and then the Moscow Conservatory and graduate school under it, and could become the author of traditional symphonies, sonatas and other academic opuses, but chose a different path, linking himself with applied music for theater and cinema. In this area, he created dozens of true masterpieces that the whole country knew and sang by heart.
Most of all, Gladkov was influenced by his childhood friend, peer and classmate Vasily Livanov, whose father was the star of the Art Theater. The future legendary "Sherlock Holmes" asked his comrade to help in the design of his graduation performance at the Shchukin School, for which he received both the highest score and the director's diploma. After becoming a director at the Soyuzmultfilm studio, Livanov Jr. attracted his musician friend there, who, after graduating from the conservatory, was engaged in teaching and collaborated with another film studio - Tsentrnauchfilm. Their first joint cartoon "The Most, Most" about a little lion cub was a great success and laid the foundation for a long fruitful collaboration between the duo, who soon turned into a trio.
In 1969, the third joined two friends - the aspiring poet Entin, also their one-year-old, to create an animated film based on the fairy tale of the Brothers Grimm "Bremen Town Musicians." The success of the tape was so stunning, primarily thanks to Gladkov, that his songs were literally taken away for quotes, and the names of the authors and performer of all roles Oleg Anofriev were recognized and loved by the whole country.
In 1973, the sequel "In the Footsteps of Bremen Musicians" was released, and already in the 21st century new sequels of this movie hit appeared.
In addition to his successful work in the field of animation ("Kid and Carlson," "28 Parrots," "Blue Puppy"), the composer also turns to feature films, where he wrote music for more than 110 films that have gained great popularity - "Gentlemen of Fortune," "Point, Point, Comma," "People and Mannequins," "You Are Me, I Am You," "Man from Kaputsin Boulevard" (1987) and others. Many of them appeared on the basis of the performances of the same name - "Wake Up and Sing," "The Taming of the Shrew," "People and Passions," "Dulcinea Tobos." A special place in his work is occupied by films shot in collaboration with director Mark Zakharov - "12 Chairs" (1976), "Ordinary Miracle" (1978), "The House Swift Built," "Formula of Love" (1984), "Kill the Dragon."
In 2002, Gladkov was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation. He was a member of the Union of Cinematographers and the Union of Composers of Russia. In addition, he composed poetry all his life and was, no matter how little, the head of the department of language training and the Bologna process of MGIMO. By the way, his most famous poetic experience is the famous song "Un momento" from the Zakharovskaya "Formula of Love," which he himself sings in a duet with Abdulov.
In 2012, with his support, the Theater "Territory of the Musical" was created in Minsk, designed to acquaint the audience with this genre.
