According to Roem.ru, the verdict issued by the court puts the defense in a position in which it is risky for her to challenge the verdict - the likelihood of toughening the punishment in the appeal or cassation instance exists and it is not equal to zero, sentences below the lower limit for men under article 228 are not so often prescribed.

According to the Roem.ru, if the verdict comes into force, Sergei Grebennikov may be released earlier than five years - after serving three quarters of the term with exemplary behavior, taking into account the term already served in the pre-trial detention center.

Grebennikov was arrested in a criminal case under Article 228.1 of the Criminal Code "Illegal production, sale or transfer of narcotic drugs in a significant amount." According to the Russian Venture Telegram channel, during the investigation it turned out that one of the witnesses, following the interrogation of whom the charge was substantiated, lived with Grebennikov in the same apartment that the latter rented.

As the BBC Russian Service notes, referring to information received from informed sources, the case of treason against Grebennikov could have been initiated based on the results of a search that took place in another case - on attempted sale of prohibited substances. Earlier, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow sentenced Grebennikov on charges of selling drugs on an especially large scale. He received seven years in prison, although the prosecution requested 11 years in prison. The appeal noted that Grebennikov has a residence permit in the United States, as well as an apartment in Germany.[3]

The accusations against the former head of the Russian Association of Electronic Communications have nothing to do with the new association team or its members. This was announced to Vedomosti by a representative of RAEK. The association reminded the publication that Grebennikov was actually removed by the Council of the leadership of the RAEC in January 2025. From that moment, the executive director of the RAEC Ekaterina Demkina was engaged in the affairs of the association . Legally, Grebennikov was fired by the decision of the general meeting of founders on June 9, 2025.
