2021:5 years in prison for hosting for virus distributors
Russian Alexander Grichishkin in early December 2021 was sentenced to five years in prison in the United States for cyber fraud. The decision of the court in Michigan was reported by the American Ministry of Justice.
According to the investigation and the court, 34-year-old Grichishkin led a hacker group that provided customers with "bulletproof hosting," which allowed attackers to distribute malware to attack organizations and American citizens. Attackers used the leased infrastructure to distribute malware, form botnets and steal bank data for fraudulent purposes.
The service allowed, without the risk of blocking, to send malware to carry out attacks on computer networks of financial organizations and individuals in the United States. The Russian conducted such activities from 2009 to 2015. The damage from the actions of the attackers, the US Justice Department estimated at millions of dollars.
According to US law enforcement agencies, Grichishkin helped his criminal clients avoid detection by law enforcement agencies and continue to commit illegal actions. As the leader of the organization, Grichishkin advertised his technical means on online forums of cybercriminals, set fees for services, negotiated with clients, hired associates, supervised their work.
Malicious devices ON such as Zeus, SpyEye, Citadel and Blackhole Exploit Kit were used to gain access to devices of organizations and individuals. The total damage from the actions of attackers is estimated in millions of dollars.
Earlier, an American court also found guilty two accomplices of Grichishkin: 30-year-old citizen Pavel Stassi and 33-year-old citizen of Lithuania Alexander Skorodumov. They were sentenced to 2 and 4 years in prison, respectively.[1]
