Education

He graduated from bachelor's degree and received a specialty in electrical engineering.

In 2012, Serhi Herrero received a master's degree in Telecommunications Management from Ramón Lull University in Spain.

Career

Until 2014, he held several leadership positions in the field of technology, banking and consulting.

In 2014, he came to Facebook, where until August 2019 he worked as a global director for payments and commercial partnerships. Sergi Herrero was responsible for the launch and development of payments and commercial capabilities of Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram. He also led the direction of charitable donations, the scaling and optimization of advertising payments and the expansion of the Facebook marketplace.

In the fall of 2019, Serhi Herrero and Kaan Terzioglu were appointed as Veon's operational co-directors. In particular, Serhi joined the Veon team on September 1. At Veon, Sergi Herrero runs a venture capital division and "grows" a company outside the traditional communications business with a focus on related digital products. In particular, we are talking about the directions outlined in the September strategy of the company.^[1]

From March 1, 2020, Serhi Herrero and Kaan Terzioglu will become co-heads of Veon, which the company announced on February 13, 2020.^[2]. At this post, they will replace Ursula Burns.

2021

Leaving the post of CEO of Veon

In mid-2021, it became known that one of the general directors of Veon, Sergi Herrero, who joined the company in September 2019, will leave the post on June 30, 2021. Herrero is expected to continue advising the company in particular on the Veon Ventures business, which is focused on creating value in fast-growing areas.

Sergi Herrero left Veon

Herrero believes that Veon's huge customer base puts the company in the same league as social media giants such as Facebook, where he worked before Veon. He brought the same customer-oriented thinking to Veon. He and his team believe that the best way to serve customers is to create great products with an intuitive user interface and regularly adapt these products to meet changing customer needs.

Kaan Terzioglu will continue to serve as CEO of Veon, responsible for corporate issues and the overall activities of the group.
