Leonid Boguslavsky resigns from the board of directors of Veon

In addition, eight board directors can be re-elected, in particular, ex-head MTS Vasily Sidorov, co-founder of the fintech company Revo Technologies and Sorsdata, Irina Shvakman CEO of the music service Deezer Hans-Holger Albrecht, managing partner of Spencer Stuart International in Moscow Yaroslav Glasunov, former Chief Legal Officer Sanofi Andrey Gusev.
The new chairman of the board of directors of Veon will be elected after the upcoming general meeting of shareholders, which will be held on June 29, 2022.[1]
Mikhail Friedman resigned from the board of directors of Veon after the imposition of sanctions
On March 1, 2022, Veon announced the withdrawal of Mikhail Friedman from the board of directors of the holding. The decision entered into force a day earlier - February 28, according to the website of the European telecommunications company, which includes the Russian VimpelCom.
Together with Friedman, who has been on the board of directors of Veon since 2010, another of its members, Stefan Ducharm, a citizen of the United States and Germany, left him.
The reasons for the departure of Mikhail Friedman from the board of directors of Veon are not indicated in the company's message. Most likely, this is due to the introduction of EU sanctions against the entrepreneur - he was frozen all assets and accounts in Europe, and also banned from entering the European Union. Friedman announced his desire to challenge EU restrictions.

Friedman also left the supervisory board of the X5 Group. The same was done by Stefan Ducharme, who until March 2021 for five years headed the Supervisory Council of X5. The structure of Alfa Group CTF Holdings S.A. By the beginning of March 2022, it owns a 47.86% stake in X5.
By the beginning of March 2022, a 47.9% stake in Veon belongs to Mikhail Fridman, a LetterOne part of Alfa Group and partners. Friedman's fortune, according to Russian Forbes, at the end of 2021 was $15.5 billion; according to Forbes Real-Time assets as of March 1, 2022 - $13.2 billion.[2]
2021: Approval of the updated Board of Directors
In June 2021, Veon shareholders approved the updated composition of the company's board of directors. New members included:
- Vasily Sidorov - in 2003-2006. was the general director of MTS, he also worked as the financial director of Svyazinvest;
- Irina Shvakman - co-founder of the fintech company Revo Technologies and Sorsdat, she was also a senior partner of the McKinsey, where she advised top managers of leading banks;
- Sergi Herrero is one of the two CEO of Veon, he will leave this position on June 30, 2021.
Shareholders also re-elected 9 directors from the current composition:
- Veon's largest shareholder Mikhail Friedman;

Osama Bedier, Peter Derby and Amos Genish left the board for their service.
At the annual meeting of shareholders, at which the updated composition of the board of directors would be approved, the holders of 99.3% of Veon securities were present. Within the framework of this event, the company [[ PricewaterhouseCoopers Accountants was again selected as an independent auditor, and new amendments and additions to the company's set point were adopted.
By June 2021, the largest shareholder of the telecommunications holding is LetterOne, which is part of Alfa Group Mikhail Fridman and partners, LetterOne owns a 47.9% stake in Veon. The share of Veon securities in free float on Nasdaq is 43.8%, another 8.3% of the group is under the control of Stichting (a kind of Dutch trust).[3]
