Biography

2024: Kidnapping in Mexico

Russian extreme bicycle traveler Vladimir Kosarov (real name - Komarov) was kidnapped in Mexico on September 24, 2024. The incident took place in the Nuevo Laredo area, known for increased criminal activity related to the activities of drug cartels.

According to RBC, the head of the consular department of the Russian Embassy in Mexico, Yakov Fedorov, confirmed the abduction and subsequent release of the blogger. According to the diplomat, initially Komarov's subscribers transmitted information about the incident to the department.

Fedorov noted that Kosarov entered Mexico illegally from Guatemala and planned to cross the US border in the same way. The embassy warned the traveler about the responsibility and possible consequences of such actions.

After his release, Vladimir Kosarov contacted the embassy and said that the kidnappers did not harm his health. The blogger said that he was transported by car to various places, and the kidnappers used narcotic substances.

The incident ended with Kosarov dropped off near the city of Monterey with a warning never to return to Nuevo Laredo. Before the abduction, the traveler was interrogated for two hours by unknown persons who were interested in his origin and way of entering the territory.

It is worth noting that this is not the first case of the disappearance of Vladimir Kosarov during his travels. In the spring of 2024, the blogger disappeared for three months in Colombia. In mid-April 2024, he got in touch from Panama, reporting malaria infection after passing the Darien Gap.

Vladimir Kosarov maintains his travel blog on the social network Instagram (owned by Meta, a recognized extremist organization and banned in Russia), where he has almost 3.4 thousand subscribers.[1]
