2025: Sentence - 8 years in prison for bribes during the construction of a hospital worth ₽30 billion

On January 29, 2025, the director of the Nizhnevartovsk branch of the Ugra Capital Construction Department, Alexander Makarikov, received 8 years and 6 months in prison in a maximum security correctional colony. The court found him guilty of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale and official forgery. The case is connected with the construction project of the Central District Hospital in Nizhnevartovsk, which turned out to be one of the largest long-term construction projects in the history of the region.

According to the investigation, from December 2019 to September 2021, Makarikov received a bribe from a representative of a commercial organization in the amount of more than ₽36 million. The funds were transferred for lobbying the interests of the company in the conclusion and execution of the state contract for the construction of the hospital. In addition, the official signed acts of work performed that were not actually performed. For this crime, Makarikov also received a fine of ₽36,5 million and was deprived of the right to hold certain positions for 8 years.

In 2019, the Krasnoyarsk company Monolitstroy was involved to complete the work, which was supposed to hand over the facility in July 2021. Nevertheless, the work was delayed, and the project was completed already under the new governor of Ugra Ruslan Kukharuk.[1]
