The defense claims that the amount involved in the case was spent on repairs and the needs of the medical institution. At the end of October 2023, the Central District Court of Novosibirsk sentenced Valentina Makasheva, the former chief child psychiatrist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation for the Siberian Federal District, the ex-head physician of the regional children's clinical neuropsychiatric dispensary. She was found guilty of embezzlement of budget funds on an especially large scale (part 4 of article 160 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation; the maximum punishment is 10 years in prison). The woman was assigned three years probation with a probationary period of two years and a fine of 300 thousand rubles.

According to the investigation, the accused for ten years fictitiously employed employees and received a salary for them. Over the years, the woman illegally received about 10 million rubles.

Then Makasheva's lawyer said that his client was accused of embezzling money, which was eventually spent on repairing the dispensary and the needs of the medical institution.^[2]
