Biography

Mark Hurd was born on January 1, 1956 in New York.

Is the bachelor of business administration – the corresponding academic degree was appropriated to Mark Universitetom Beylora, Texas, the USA, in 1979. Entered into the international fraternity of Phi Delta Theta.

1980: Start of work in NCR

Mark Hurd started the career in 1980 in the NCR corporation specializing in financial products and the equipment for retail stores. Having come to the company as the sales manager, afterwards he began to be engaged in management, transactions and marketing. Headed division on release of storage systems.

2003: Head of NCR

In 2001 the management of NCR appointed Hyord the president, later, in 2002, – the chief operating officer and in 2003 – the chief executive officer of corporation. Under the leadership of Mark, the company coped with negative financial results and got a profit. In total in NCR Mark worked 25 years.

2005: Head of HP

Joined HP in 2005 as the chief executive officer and the president.

In September, 2006 Hyord received a position of the chairman of the board of the company to whom within five years this position was held by Carly Fiorina. Played a significant role in expansion of the company and increase in its income. From 2004 to 2008 financial year revenue of HP increased from $80 billion to $118.4 billion.

Heard's salary in 2009 made $1.2 million, and total earnings - more than $30 million.

Mark Hurd is a board member of News corporation. Is a member of Technology CEO Council – groups of chief executive officers of the IT companies which are engaged in state policy and questions of trade.

2010

Dismissal from HP because of charges of sexual harassments from the 50-year-old employee

In August, 2010 left all positions held in NR company. Charges from the former employee of HP of sexual harassments became the reason of resignation of Heard, as stated in the message of the company. Based on the made investigations, Heard's guilt was not proved. Nevertheless, he was found guilty of abuse of regulations of corporate ethics.

Charges of sexual harassments were brought by 50-year-old Jodie Fisher who worked in HP during the period from 2007 to 2009. She was engaged in the organization of the presentations and was the leader of these actions, for each of which received the royalties at the rate to $5 thousand. Commenting on Heard's resignation, she told that she "is surprised and disappointed" with such outcome. Fisher is the actress acting in thrillers, melodramas and a reality show. Its filmography includes scenes with erotic contents. Based on internal investigation it became clear that Heard spent for it money from the budget of the company, forging expense reports.

The anonymous source of Associated Press reports that all claims from Fisher to Heard were withdrawn after payment of monetary compensation which amount the source did not call. Heard received from HP as compensation $12.2 million in exchange for what he undertakes not to make claims to the employer in violation of the labor law. In addition to receiving immediate compensation, Heard continues to remain the shareholder of the company.

Commenting on this event, Heard recognizes errors in the behavior and says that leaving is the best option.

Appointment of Oracle as the president

September, 2010 Mark Hurd is admitted to Board of Directors of Oracle and appointed the president of this company. He reports to the chief executive officer of Oracle Larry Ellison.

Heard's joining to Oracle was also greeted by Safra Catz who also holds a position of the president of Oracle. According to Heard which are given in the official statement, together they will be able to bypass IBM in the markets of servers and storage systems.

In a week after news of Heard's resignation the founder and the head of Oracle Larry Ellison sent the letter in which he criticized behavior of Board of Directors of HP to edition The New York Times.

HP files a lawsuit being afraid of transfer of Oracle of confidential information

On September 7, 2010 it became known that Hewlett-Packard filed a lawsuit against the former head Mark Hurd next day after the declaration of its accession to Oracle as the president and the board member. HP is afraid that through Hurd Oracle will be able to learn about confidential information. Moreover, are convinced of the company that Hurd just will not be able qualitatively to execute the duties in Oracle if is not guided by information obtained on a prior workplace. Hurd signed the corresponding nondisclosure agreements of a trade secret with HP in 2008, and then in 2009 and 2010. They oblige to announce employment in the competing company not less than in a year before. Hurd was also obliged to provide to the former employer convincing arguments about security in relation to HP of transition to the new company, but did not make it.

In Heard's protection the chief executive officer of Oracle Larry Ellison who criticized Heard's resignation earlier stood up, having called the HP decision made by Board of Directors "coward".

Within the cooperation lasting about 25 years, Oracle and HP tried to obtain compatibility of the solutions. Oracle is the largest DBMS developer, HP - servers and storage systems. Oracle aims to become the supplier of complete solutions, and for this purpose last year the company announced acquisition of the supplier of servers of SUN Microsystems. The former head of HP Mark Hurd should become one of key figures in promotion of this strategy.

2019

Death at the age of 62 years

On October 18, 2019 it became known of Mark Hurd's death. He was 62 years old.

The reason of death of one of two CEOs of Oracle is not advertized. A month before death Hyord took the sick-list.

When in September, 2019 Mark Hurd announced vacation, he explained that he decided to find time for the health, and the Board of Directors of Oracle granted a hospital leave at its request.

After unexpected leaving of Mark Hurd in a holiday which terms were not called Oracle did not announce search of the new candidate for a position of the head of the company. Possibly, it was supposed that Hurd's absence will last not for long. Larry Ellison began to fulfill temporarily the CEO's duties after Hurd's death. Whether the company will save a management structure two CEOs, by October 18, 2019 it is unknown.

Since that moment when in 2014 Oracle was headed by Mark Hurd and Safra Catz, stocks of the company rose in price approximately for 37%. Catz was responsible for production, financial and legal parts, and Heard — for sales, services and business divisions.

Mark Hurd addressed journalists more often, than Larry Ellison and Safra Catz. Hurd was among those who saw the future of Oracle in cloud computing. He predicted that by 2025 all corporate data will be stored in a cloud, and all development processes and software testings will be performed in a cloud environment.

Mark Hurd was also a supporter of measures for cost reduction. Being the head of HP he dismissed several thousands of people.[1]

Earnings in Oracle about $2.5 million
