Biography

Born in Krasnodar.

He graduated from MEPhI with honors in 1974 with a degree in Theoretical Nuclear Physics.

Career

1974-1997 - trainee researcher, assistant, senior lecturer, associate professor, professor at MEPhI, director of the scientific center of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

1997-1998 - Vice-Rector for International Educational and Scientific Activities of MEPhI.

1998-1999 - Deputy Head of the Department of Scientific Research of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

1999-2003 - Head of the Department for the Development and Planning of Scientific Research of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation.

2003-2004 - Deputy Minister of Education of the Russian Federation.

2004-2007 - Deputy Director of the Department of State Scientific, Technical and Innovation Policy of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

2006 - to the present - Head of the Department of MEPhI.

2007 - elected rector of MEPhI.

2009 - re-elected rector of NRNU MEPhI.

Scientific achievements

In 1978 he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences on the topic "Interaction of radiation with matter."

In 1984, he was awarded the academic title of assistant professor.

In 1992 he defended his thesis for the degree of Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

In 1996, he was awarded the academic title of professor.

He is the author of four monographs and two textbooks, 244 scientific papers on relativistic nuclear physics, of which about 190 are in refereed journals.

Member of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Corporation "Rosnanotech."
