2023: Election as President of Montenegro

On April 2, 2023, incumbent Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists, admitted his own defeat in the election of the head. states

According to the Montenegrin public television and radio company Radio and Television of Montenegro, Yakov Milatovich was elected the new president, who served as Minister of Economy and Economic Development in the government of Zdravko Krivokapic from December 4, 2020 to April 28, 2022. He is the co-founder of the center-right movement "Europe Now!"

According to the calculations of the Montenegrin Center for Monitoring and Research, Milatovich enlisted the support of 60% of voters, while 40% voted for Djukanovic. It is noted that approximately 542 thousand citizens of Montenegro have the right to vote. At the same time, the turnout in the presidential election reached 70.4%.

Yakov Milatovich was born in Titograd in 1986. He received his primary and secondary education at the gymnasium "Slobodan Shkerović," and then studied as a bachelor of economics at the University of Montenegro. In 2013, he was awarded a master's degree in economics at Oxford University. In the first round of the presidential election, held on March 19, 2023, Milatovich took second place, receiving 29.2% of the vote. In the second round, held on April 2, 2023, he became the unconditional leader. Milatovic has already promised that within five years Montenegro will join the European Union.[1]
