Biography

1969-2016

Lina Nair was born in India in 1969. She studied at the Holy Cross Monastery School in Kolhapur and received a specialty in electronics and telecommunications engineering at Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli, but chose HR instead of working in the specialty. After joining Unilever as a management intern in 1992, Nair worked in various positions at factories, sales departments, and at the corporation's headquarters at Unilever.

Later, she climbed the career ladder, becoming the executive director of personnel. In 2016, she became Unilever's youngest HR director and a member of Unilever's executive management, responsible for 150 thousand employees in more than 100 countries.

2021: Appointment as Chanel CEO

On December 15, 2021, French fashion house Chanel appointed Lina Nair, former HR director of Unilever, as its global CEO.

Chanel said in a statement that Alain Wertheimer, along with his brother Gerard Wertheimer, will take on the role of global executive chairman, and 52-year-old Nair will take on the role of global CEO.

After being appointed the new global executive director of Chanel, Nair thanked the fashion house on social networks for choosing her.

She often says that her goal is to "light a human spark to build a better business and a better world." This year, Nair also entered the list of the most influential women in India according to Fortune magazine.

Nair is also a non-executive member of BT plc, a member of the Leverhulme Trust board and a non-executive director of the British Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.[1]
