2023: Death

On August 12, 2023, the remains of 41-year-old cryptocurrency millionaire Christian Peev, who had disappeared a few days before, were found in a sewer in one of the residential buildings of the Bulgarian capital Sofia.

Parts of Peev's body found plumbers who were called to clean the clogged pipes. Investigators believe the alleged killer, named Vesco Valchinov, chopped up his victim's body and flushed some parts down the toilet. The criminal buried the head of the murdered man and some other parts.

Peev, who had both American and Bulgarian citizenship, graduated from a university in the United States and made a fortune in cryptocurrency investments. He was a regular guest at social parties and various events. On one of them, he met his alleged killer - Valchinov, who worked as a bartender. Peev was killed between August 8 and 9, 2023. It is reported that the suspect beat the victim to death with a heavy object (presumably a dumbbell), dismembered the body in the bathroom of his apartment and then disposed of the remains.

Investigators checked contacts from two phones of the murdered man and found that on the day of his disappearance he communicated with Valchinov. Data from surveillance cameras indicate that on August 8, 2023, men entered Valchinov's house, but the next day the suspect came out alone. He came home and left again several times, but Peev never appeared. Another suspect named Konstantin Subotinov allegedly helped the killer hide the dismembered corpse of the victim.

According to reports, Peev advised Valchinov on how to do business with cryptocurrency, so investigators suspect that the motive for the murder is related to money. In addition, the version that the crime was committed on the basis of jealousy is not excluded. The investigation is ongoing.^[1]
