Biography

Sergei was educated at Polytechnic University CS from 1982 to 1985.

In 1985, he continued his studies at the NYU Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences Computer Science (Courant Institute for Mathematical Sciences at New York University), which he graduated in 1987 with a master's degree in mathematics and cybernetics.

He worked at Bell Labs.

In 1995-1997 he worked at Morgan Stanley.

From 1997 to 1998 he worked at Natwest Markets.

He worked at Deutsche Bank from 1998 to 2005.

In 2006, he joined Quadriserv as Managing Director of Technology and Strategic Development, where he worked until 2011.

In May 2013, he was appointed a Member of the Management Board of the Moscow Exchange. His area of ​ ​ responsibility included the IT block of the Moscow Exchange.

Work at Alfa-Bank

In November 2018, it became known Sergei Polyakov moved to Alfa-Bank. As in his previous place of work, he oversees the information technology unit, is responsible for the IT strategy, in particular, changing the system of interaction between IT and the main business. In the new position, he is subordinate to the Chief Managing Director (CEO) of Alfa-Bank Vladimir Verkhoshinsky.

In August 2019, Sergei Polyakov was elected a member of Alfa-Bank's management board in accordance with a decision taken by the credit institution's board of directors. Earlier, his candidacy was agreed by the Bank of Russia.

Alfa-Bank clarified to TAdviser that Polyakov's predecessor, Martin Piletsky, who was responsible for IT at the bank in 2012-2018. was not a member of the board. The practice of including line managers is relatively new for the bank. According to the Alfa-Bank website, as of August 2019, in addition to the Chief information officer, the management board also includes directors of such areas as digital business, small business and micro-business, medium-sized businesses, legal issues and problem asset management, etc.

Dismissal from Alfa-Bank

In the spring of 2022, Sergei Polyakov left the post of Chief information officer of Alfa Bank, which fell under US sanctions. According to TAdviser sources, he has US citizenship, and sanctions prohibit American citizens from cooperating with organizations from the sanctions lists.

The CIO change took place without any announcements in the outside. Polyakov's successor was Vitaly Zadorozhny.
