In October 2023, the Basmanny Court of Moscow sentenced Sergei Lavrentiev, former general director of NKB Bank, to four years in prison for embezzlement of bank property. Similar punishments were received by Lavrentiev's adviser Mikhail Solodov and head of the development and support department of the NKB banking network Vladimir Krishtop.

The district court also fully satisfied the civil claim of the Deposit Insurance Agency (DIA), the bankruptcy trustee of NKB. 590 million rubles were collected from the convicts in solidarity, their arrested property was recovered, the DIA reported on the website on October 10, 2023.

Sergey Lavrentiev received 4 years in prison for embezzlement of 590 million rubles from the NKB bank

Earlier, the Moscow Arbitration Court brought Lavrentiev and his adviser Mikhail Solodov to subsidiary liability in the bankruptcy case of NKB Design Bureau. Its potential size is 1.6 billion rubles. The reason was the acquisition of illiquid assets by managers. The bank's claims for the specified amount are included in the register of claims of Lavrentiev's creditors.

The Deposit Insurance Agency appealed to the court with a statement on the introduction of bankruptcy proceedings against Sergei Lavrentiev. The Arbitration Court of the Republic of Mordovia on September 27, 2023 recognized it and introduced a debt restructuring procedure against the debtor. As noted in the DIA, the introduction of bankruptcy proceedings against the ex-head of a credit institution will increase the likelihood of returning funds to the bankruptcy estate of the bank to further satisfy the claims of creditors.

The agency recalled that the Bank of Russia revoked the license for banking operations from NKB due to the fact that "with unsatisfactory asset quality, the bank inadequately assessed the accepted risks."[1]
