Ilya Shirokov was born on November 4, 1981 in Moscow.
Since 2000 was engaged in design of microprocesses at Institute of system researches of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 2003 with honors graduated from the MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics, and in the 2004th - New Economic School, went a training to PricewaterhouseCoopers companies.
In 2005 founded social network "My Circle" which later was purchased two years by "Yandex".
In 2008 got a job in Warburg Pincus investment fund in London.
In 2009 received MBA degree at Stanford University.
In 2010 it was appointed the vice president of Mail.ru and the project manager Odnoklassniki. Shirokov managed Odnoklassniki more than four years till fall of 2014. Before he founded social network "My Circle", and in 2007 sold it to "Yandex". He began to be engaged in Odnoklassniki at the end of 2009 — the beginning of 2010 when the social network and other assets of Mail.ru Group were included into DST fund of Yury Milner and Alisher Usmanov. At that time Odnoklassniki had other CEO, and Shirokov supervised this project in DST. In March, 2010 Shirokov himself headed social network.
