2023: Prison sentence for embezzlement of 1.9 million rubles

At the end of June 2023, the Leninsky District Court of Tomsk issued a verdict against the former chief physician of the oncological dispensary of the Tomsk Region Sofia Mazeina and her deputy for financial and economic activities Oksana Lazareva in the embezzlement case. Mazeina received 2 years in prison in a general regime colony with a suspended sentence until 2032 (until her child reaches adulthood). Lazareva was sentenced to four years in prison. The court also satisfied the civil claim of the oncology dispensary: 1.93 million rubles will be recovered from the convicts.

A criminal case against doctors was opened and investigated by employees of the Tomsk FSB. The reason was the payment of increased bonuses to one of the employees of the oncology dispensary. During the investigation, it turned out that he spent part of this money by order of his leaders, and gave another part to them in cash. Thus, 1.6 million rubles were stolen. Also, according to the materials of the investigation, they received 300 thousand rubles from the cash register of a medical institution, which they disposed of at their discretion.

Prior to this criminal case, Sofya Mazeina already had a criminal record for embezzlement. Before being appointed to the post of head physician of the regional oncology dispensary, she headed the Shegar district hospital of the Tomsk region. During this period of her activity, under the guise of also performing the duties of an extras doctor in the hospital, she received an "increase in salary" in the amount of more than 0.5 million rubles. Then the verdict for Mazeina was a fine of 250 thousand.

After her appointment to the post of head physician of the oncological dispensary and the identification of new facts of theft in the regional health department, they stated that they did not know about Mazeina's criminal record.[1]
