The arrest may be related to an investigation into one of the deputy heads of the information security center (CIB) of the FSBSergey Mikhailov, who is suspected of receiving money from a foreign organization through the mediation of an employee of a Russian company in the field of information security. The name of this company has not been announced. The investigation is underway on suspicion of violating Article 275 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("High treason").

Kommersant reports that, among other things, the relationships of the CIB with private companies that collaborated with the unit in conducting cybercrime examinations are being checked.

Since 2013, the Kaspersky Lab Computer Incident Investigation Department has helped the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs analyze cybercrimes, and has also been involved in expert support of criminal cases in the field of cybersecurity.

The interlocutors of the publication call Mikhailov one of the key employees of the CIB, which "in fact, oversees the entire Internet business in the country."

This person, in my opinion, largely informally determines the policy of the entire cybersecurity and Internet commerce industry, - said Pavel Vrublevsky, a longtime acquaintance of Mikhailov, founder of the Chronopay payment system.

On his Facebook page, Pavel Vrublevsky wrote that at one time Sergei Mikhailov opened a case against ChronoPay about a DDoS attack on Aeroflot, and Ruslan Stoyanov then made an examination on that case.[1]

The press service of Kaspersky Lab confirmed the arrest, but noted that the investigation is being conducted against a private person who is not related to the company.[2]
