2026: Arrest on charges of fictitious employment

In February 2026, a criminal case was opened in Nizhny Novgorod on the fact of fraud on an especially large scale against Pavel Zubeev, acting chief physician of the City Hospital No. 33, and his daughter, head of the ophthalmology department, Tatyana Sokolova. It is alleged that, in fact, fulfilling her duties in private clinics, Sokolova was simultaneously on the staff of a state hospital and received wages there.

According to the investigation, the head of the medical institution authorized the unjustified overstatement of his daughter's salary, and also misled employees about the amount of paid medical services she provided. According to the Telegram channel "Opera Writes," associated with law enforcement agencies, Sokolova was regularly absent from the workplace in a state hospital, receiving patients in her own private clinic.

The total amount of illegally received funds exceeded 1 million rubles. The actions of the defendants show signs of a crime under Part 4 of Art. 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud committed by an organized group or on an especially large scale).

As part of the criminal case, employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Nizhny Novgorod Region conducted searches in office offices, as well as at the places of residence of the suspects. In the country house of Pavel Zubeev, law enforcement officers found and seized 50 million rubles. In addition, documentation, mobile phones and notebooks, as well as cash worth more than 1 million rubles in foreign currency, were seized from the defendants.

The court chose a preventive measure against Tatyana Sokolova in the form of detention. According to the regional branch of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a legal assessment of Pavel Zubeev's actions will be given after improving his health.[1][2][3]
