2020: Beating on the basis of professional activity

On October 5, 2020, it became known about the attack on the Minister of Health of Chuvashia Vladimir Stepanov. A 23-year-old resident of Cheboksary hit him with a wrench, according to the regional department of the Investigative Committee.

The attack was committed on the afternoon of October 3, 2020, and the reason for it, as law enforcement agencies found out, was dissatisfaction with one of the decisions made by Vladimir Stepanov. What kind of decision we are talking about is not specified.

The man was waiting for the official at the exit from the Government House, after which he immediately attacked him and inflicted three blows with a wrench. The civil servant managed to put his hand out and thereby avoided serious injuries - he escaped with abrasions. The minister did not require hospitalization.

According to preliminary data from the investigation, the person who attacked the Minister of Health suffers from mental illness. By October 5, 2020, a set of investigative and other procedural actions is being carried out aimed at establishing all the circumstances of the incident, the necessary forensic examinations have been appointed, and the issue of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided.

The procedural decision to initiate a criminal case was recognized by the prosecutor as legal and justified, according to the Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation for the Chuvash Republic.

A criminal case was opened against the head of the Chuvash Ministry of Health under Part 1 of Art. 318 of the Criminal Code (use of violence against a government official). He faces up to five years in prison.

Vladimir Stepanov was appointed Minister of Health of the Chuvash Republic on March 20, 2020. He has been working in the medical field since 2007. At one time, he was deputy chief physician at the Republican Children's Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Health of Chuvashia, as well as the head physician of the Novocheboksary Medical Center.[1]
