TamTam is a mobile messaging application. The service allows you to communicate with contacts from the phone's notebook and find friends among millions of users of Mail.Ru Group projects.

With TamTam, you can correspond in private messages and in group chats, share stickers with gif animation, send photos, videos and audio recordings. The application works stably with a weak Internet connection, you can also send messages offline - in this case, messages are sent automatically when connected to the Internet.

The messenger allows you to communicate not only with friends, but also with a large audience of subscribers - through private and public channels. In channels, you can collect subscribers without limiting the number of users and send messages to them. Channels will be able to run both ordinary users and brands, media, bloggers and other authors. You can find the necessary channels by name using the main search bar of the messenger.

2026: Closing the messenger

VK stopped supporting and closed the TamTam messenger. This was announced in February 2026 in the company. Service users received notifications about the closure of the application. The technical support message says that due to the closure of TamTam, authorization by phone number in the service will become unavailable from February 27, 2026. The messenger was launched in July 2016 under the name "OK messages" and in May 2017 it was renamed "TamTam," in August 2018 it could be used independently of Odnoklassniki^[1]

On October 11, 2017, the TamTam project team announced the launch of a web version messenger available at tamtam.chat. Now all TamTam users can communicate browser using on a desktop computer or laptop.

Launch of public and private chats

On August 1, Mail.Ru Group announced the launch of public chats in the TamTam messenger, in which up to 20 thousand application users can simultaneously correspond. A link to the chat can be obtained in the settings: users will be able to view the correspondence or join it. Public chats can also be found by name through a search in the messenger.

With the help of public chats, users can discuss the news of celebrities or their favorite football team, share comments about recent events, get acquainted and find common topics. TamTam already has the first public chats: a chat of fans of singer Polina Gagarina, the Russian Figure Skating Federation, a chat for football fans from Sports.ru and a chat with a discussion of the news of the stars of the PeopleTalk edition.

At the same time as public ones, private chats appeared in TamTam, which can only be entered by direct link from the administrator or participant in the correspondence. Private chats are not displayed in the search for a messenger, only participants can read them. Messages from public and private chats are displayed in their participants in the general list of chats in TamTam. In the chat settings, a search by participant names also appeared, which will help you quickly find the contacts you need.

Chat creators and administrators will be able to change settings at any time and make the chat non-public again, or update the link to it. Chat administrators have also received tools to moderate the discussion: in particular, they will be able to delete messages or block individual users.

Public and private chats are already available in TamTam apps for iOS and Android platforms.

TamTam is a messenger for active communication with a large number of people: friends, acquaintances and like-minded people. Since launch, thematic channels have been popular in TamTam: the audience in them grows by an average of 30% per month. Live broadcasts inside the messenger

In June, in the TamTam messenger, it became possible to watch live broadcasts without leaving the application. Broadcasts are available in both channels and personal correspondence of users.

To show a live stream in TamTam, you need to insert a link to the stream into the message - when you click on the preview, the stream will open inside the application to the full screen. After the end of the stream and processing, the video broadcast is saved in correspondence or in the channel.
