2021: Announcement of a robot for moving objects without human intervention

In mid-June 2021, Amazon introduced four autonomous robots that are designed to move objects without human intervention. Robots are designed to increase employee safety and reduce their workload.

The Bert robot is one of Amazon's first autonomous mobile robots (AMR), created to independently navigate objects, even if workers move in space. Unlike other devices, Bert can perform tasks not only in a limited space, with the help of which it can transport goods throughout the company's facility. Amazon representatives noted that Bert will eventually be able to move heavier objects.

The Ernie robot helps remove items from the robotic shelf. An Amazon report said this process does not save time, but testing showed that the robot can make work safer for employees.

Scooter and Kermit are two other Amazon-developed trolley robots. Amazon said these types of robots can take on the tasks of workers to move empty pallets between objects so that they can focus on actions that require critical thinking skills and reduce physically hard work.

The Kermit robot is still under development, but it is expected that already in 2021 it will be presented at at least ten North American enterprises. Testing of the Scooter robot in 2021 will be limited to one object.

Amazon claims that the robots presented allow company employees to focus on tasks that most require their attention, while minimizing the possibility of injury. In addition, Amazon has had more than 1 million jobs around the world since the company commissioned robotics at its facilities in 2012.^[1]
