On July 17, 2023, it became known about the decision of Aquarius to engage in the production of telecommunications equipment. The company sees demand in the market, so they plan to expand the business.

As Kommersant was told in Aquarius, we are talking about "the development of hardware and software, the formation of a separate team, the independent development of the lineup in the register of telecommunications equipment of Russian origin." The company clarified that they would invest 3 billion rubles in the direction at the first stage, hiring "about 100 new employees."

According to the newspaper, on the recruiting website of the hh.ru "Aquarius" has already published several vacancies related to the development and testing of telecom equipment - "head of the testing department" and "head of the hardware development department"

According to experts interviewed by the publication, Russian manufacturers are more focused on the public sector and state corporations, which purchase domestic telecom equipment for their closed networks in a small amount. Commercial large telecom operators, in turn, purchased foreign equipment imported through parallel imports.

The interlocutor of the newspaper in one of the operators notes that "so far telecom operators as a whole are reluctant to switch to domestic equipment, including in network elements, since it is possible to purchase foreign goods through parallel imports."

The head of Zelax (a domestic equipment manufacturer) Sergey Sukhman explains the interest of Aquarius in the development and production of equipment by the fact that due to the upcoming tightening of regulatory requirements, which determines the status of the country, the demand for equipment developed and produced in Russia will grow. The interlocutor on the market adds that by July 2023, ideas are being "discussed" to limit the parallel import of telecom equipment into Russia, analogues of which are being assembled in the country.^[1]
