2022: Russia's first augmented reality route appears in Petrozavodsk

At the end of June 2022, the first augmented reality tourist route in Russia appeared in Petrozavodsk. This project was implemented by the CreatePtz - Creative Community of Petrozavodsk team, about 6 million rubles were invested.

According to the creators, the originality of the route consists in its interactivity. It provides for the use of augmented reality technology. Some historical places, art objects and other attractions of Petrozavodsk will be equipped with decorative plates with QR codes. When they are read, some elements will appear on the smartphone screen.

By the end of June 2022, three AR routes were opened: for historical locations, for art objects and for secret places of Petrozavodsk. Augmented reality also allows you to learn the history of the Petrovsky and Alexander factories of the city from the lips of the mining chief Charles Gascoigne.

As explained to RBC Liana Vaguzenkova, one of the authors of the project, director of the Karjala Territorial Development Fund, the project includes not only the development of the metaverse - an augmented reality space, but also the installation of stands with information. This is the work of designers, historians, writers and many other specialists. "

Assessing the results and prospects of the project, social activists note that thanks to its implementation, technologies for creating metaverse have appeared in Karelia - the creator company has handed over specialized templates to local IT specialists and now in Petrozavodsk they can continue the project on their own. At the same time, the project itself can be financially stable - it is planned to continue introducing new objects to the route, and business representatives and others who wish can become its partners and participants on a commercial basis, the RBC publication says.^[1][2]
