2022: Launch Solution
On February 18, 2022, Axis Communications announced that as part of a video authentication project, it released a standard open source solution that will provide the video surveillance industry with open authentication and video verification capabilities. Axis implements this solution in its cameras using signed video.
Confidence in video data as evidence is at the heart of security. Doubts about the authenticity of the video can negatively affect the outcome of the investigation or trial, as well as undermine confidence in video surveillance systems as a source of evidence in general. It is important that videos are not edited from the moment of shooting.
"Some aspects of the video surveillance industry are so fundamental that cooperation should be maintained. An important component of such cooperation is an open source project, its main task is to ensure the authenticity of video recorded by surveillance cameras and the absence of falsification, " commented on Axis Communications Solutions Director Peter Freiberg. |
The Axis Edge Vault hardware component is used to sign the video in Axis cameras. It provides data storage with protection against unauthorized access and secure application operation. Secure device authentication is performed using the standardized IEEE 802.1AR method. A cryptographic checksum is added to each video frame, after which it is signed with the Axis device ID. Thus, it becomes clear with what particular Axis camera the video was shot. All this will increase the degree of trust in the materials.
"We believe that the video signature is a fairly effective way to authenticate videos: adding a signature at the time of shooting and linking it to a unique camera ID through Axis Edge Vault will identify any subsequent interference. The proliferation of open source video authentication software will allow other manufacturers to develop similar solutions, creating a generally accepted standard for video authentication, " adds Peter Freiberg. |
information According to the company, the ability to sign videos will be available in the second quarter of 2022
