2018: Global start

In June, 2018 Microsoft made global start of the Azure SQL Data Sync service allowing the companies one - or to bidirectionally synchronize the data between the Azure SQL database and local servers.

The new product succeeded the Azure SQL Data Sync Refresh service which is released in June, 2017. In comparison with it Azure SQL Data Sync received a number of considerable improvements, such as support of the new Azure, PowerShell and REST API portal. Besides, security and confidentiality of data are finished. The main innovations are listed in the blog of Microsoft:

Microsoft started service of synchronization of data between Azure SQL base and the local server
  • The improved possibilities of a configuration — stabler process of configuring and the intuitive user interface;
  • More reliable and fast scheme of updating of the database — efficiency of loading of the database is reached thanks to use to new library SMO;
  • Safer synchronization of data — Microsoft reviewed complex synchronization of workflows and provided to users always the ciphered data during transmission and information storages;
  • Azure SQL Data Sync conforms to requirements of the general regulations for data protection (GDPR) in Europe.

Thanks to this service of the company can unroll hybrid SQL solutions and open local data access both from Azure cloud, and from local infrastructure. Also clients can unroll the applications ground for work with data worldwide and have the local copy of data in each region. Thus, synchronization of data in all regions is provided.

According to developers, due to access of annexes to local copies of the database time of access and speed of a response considerably improves and also delays and the number of failures at connections are reduced.[1]
