At the production facilities of the Okskaya shipyard in the city of Navashino, the construction of a large-tonnage dry cargo ship "Boris Korolev" of mixed "river-sea" navigation was completed. The vessel received a set of classification documents on October 15, 2025. It is reported by the Russian Maritime Register of Shipping.

The construction was carried out under the technical supervision of specialists from the Nizhny Novgorod branch of the Register. The ship is assigned a symbol of the KM⍟ Ice2 class (hull; machinery) R2 AUT1-ICS LI BWM (T) CONT (deck, cargo hold) DG (bulk, pack) DE-Tier III A-Thruster(M) General dry cargo ship. The class provides for the possibility of operation in ice conditions.

Before issuing classification documents, a full cycle of sea and mooring tests was carried out. In the course of inspections under the technical supervision of the Register, an assessment of the seaworthiness of the vessel, the operation of equipment and its parameters in running modes was carried out. All systems and mechanisms worked out normally.

Dry cargo ship "Boris Korolev" became the final in a series of four vessels of the RSD71 project. The ships of the series are designed to transport general and bulk cargo, including grain. The vessel is capable of transporting packaged lumber, round timber, scrap metal, metal in bundles and rolls. The project is designed to transport large, long and heavy cargo, coal, as well as dangerous goods.

The ships of the series received a spacious cargo hold. Its length is 6 meters longer than the hold of the predecessor ships of the RSD59 project. At the same time, new generation dry cargo carriers have smaller overall dimensions. This allows you to expand the geography of delivery of goods to those ports where the ships of the RSD59 project cannot enter in size.

The final series of the ship received a name in honor of Boris Alekseyevich Korolyov. He lived from 1909 to 2010 and was a Soviet and Russian cardiac surgeon. Boris Korolev had a doctorate in medical sciences, the title of professor, was an academician of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences and a Hero of Socialist Labor.[1]
