2021: Creation of a state platform for the development of Internet access in the country

In September 2021, the Government of Ukraine approved an action plan for the development of broadband Internet access for 2021-2022 years. One of the initiatives is the creation of a state platform broadband.gov.ua.

This platform, according to the authors of the document, will create conditions for effective public investment to provide BD in state institutions, will provide transparent purchases in the telecommunications sector, as well as the possibility of connecting to BD in all settlements of the country. In addition, the system should become a single window for collecting information on the quality of telecommunications services.

Also, as part of the activities for the development of broadband, it is planned to connect 6 thousand social infrastructure institutions to fixed broadband Internet in the fourth quarter of 2021.

According to RBCUkraine"-" with reference to the explanatory note to the project, the uneven provision of broadband Internet access and low readiness of states businesses and citizens to consume Internet services are due to a number of problems in implementing the relevant state policy to ensure inclusive Internet access (infrastructure and price restrictions, a rather low level of solvency of Ukrainians), an adequate level of digital skills among the population, trust and security on the Internet, etc.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree that provides for measures to improve access to mobile Internet. The Ukrainian leader instructed the Cabinet, in cooperation with the National Commission implementing state regulation in the field of communications and informatization, to ensure the implementation of measures to improve access to mobile Internet, approved by this decree, and monthly informing the president about the status of their implementation.^[1]
