2025: Start of Endosystem Implantation

In March 2025, specialists of JSC "CITO," which is part of the structure of "Rostec," for the first time implanted a Russian endosystem intended for the treatment of damaged joints.

According to Rostec, the endosystem was created by CITO development engineers in cooperation with surgeons and is not inferior in technical characteristics to foreign samples. The article consists of a titanium endoprosthesis and additional elements for compensation of bone defects, which provide reliable fixation and integration with bone tissue.

CITO General Director Viktor Spector noted that about 170 thousand knee and hip arthroplasty operations are carried out annually in Russia, of which 10-15% are secondary surgeries to replace the endoprosthesis. After leaving the Russian market of foreign manufacturers of medical devices for joint replacement, the priority task was the creation of domestic equipment and materials.

Doctors performed the first operation using an innovative endosystem on an elderly woman who underwent a large reconstructive intervention - they installed a hip endoprosthesis and reconstructed the femur and acetabulum. The operation lasted 3 hours and ended successfully. The next day, the patient began to walk and plans to soon return to the work of the district nurse.

Head of the Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics MONIKA named after M.F. Vladimirsky, Doctor of Medical Sciences Dmitry Shavyrin, who performed the first operation to install a domestic endosystem, noted that during the intervention, an original toolkit and endoprosthesis created in collaboration with CITO specialists was used. He stressed that the product has gone a long way from the development stage to obtaining a marketing authorization. According to the doctor, as a specialist with extensive practical experience, the implant used in terms of its technical characteristics and the quality of the tools is not inferior to foreign counterparts.^[1]
