2016: Announcement
In the middle of August, 2016 Cisco announced the solution Cisco Meeting Server representing a versatile tool for joint work of staff of the companies. The product is constructed on technologies of Acano company which Cisco purchased in November, 2015 for $700 million.
Cisco Meeting Server is the software solution started on x86 server Cisco UCS which supports up to 96 simultaneous sessions of a video conferencing (VIDEOCONFERENCING) in a HD format. Cisco Meeting Server allows to create and be connected to video and audio conferences when using the equipment of Cisco and other producers and also by means of mobile clients, browsers with support of WebRTC and Skype for Business service.
The eWeek edition pays special attention on support of Skype for Business, noting that clients of this service will be able to interact with users of platforms not only Cisco, but also Polycom, Avaya and other producers.
I always deeply believed that technologies should solve the most difficult problems in the world and not to deliver new — the head of department of Cisco IoT and Collaboration Technology Group Rowan Trollope says. — But, frankly speaking, technologies of joint work brought big problems to people who just want to be connected to them and to perform the work perfectly well. Cisco Meeting Server helps to permit these difficulties — especially those which are created by some producers (I mean Microsoft), whose technologies not always well played together with others. |
The vice president and the general manager of division of Cisco Collaboration Group Snorre Kjesbu notes that from 2014 to 2016 the number of the corporate clients using video conference grew by 97%, and 85% of large conference rooms are equipped with functions of carrying out VKS.[1]
