2020: Connection of free protection against DDoS attacks

Provider IT infrastructures Selectel On November 9, 2020 announced connection of free protection from DDoS-attacks to all clients clouds based on VMware. The solution will allow to reduce business costs on hosting the increased reliability to 20%.

DDoS attacks — one of the most popular types of attack on infrastructure of the companies. The most widespread and easily organized attacks — volumetric, or volume. The essence of such attacks — in sharp increase in volume of traffic on the website therefore it just does not maintain and "falls". Growth of number of such attacks — a trend which experts of the market observe within the last several years.

For services with high requirements to availability of costs for protection of infrastructure against such attacks can make up to 20% of the cost of all Cloud. The solution Selectel for clients of "A cloud based on VMware" includes protection against DDoS by default and free of charge. On December 26, 2019 Selectel provided a disaster-proof cluster of the Cloud based on VMware in the Moscow region. The solution ensures smooth operation of information systems. The VMware Stretched vSAN technology is the cornerstone of development.

The disaster-proof cluster of a cloud is unrolled in Moscow on two independent infrastructure platforms of Tier3 level. In case of an emergency situation in the main location there is a restart of virtual machines in reserve. Probability of idle times or failures in work of information systems and applications is minimized.

In complex tests of the solution the admissible recovery point (Recovery Point Objective, RPO) approached zero. This characteristic describes features of data recovery. For example, RPO equal to one minute means that at accident loss only of information entered in the last minute is possible. Thus, in a disaster-proof cluster the risk of loss of data at the level of DWH is insignificant. Such efficiency is provided with synchronous replication of data.
