The Cognitive Rail Pilot system can detect foreign objects on the railway - other railway trains, arrows, people, vehicles. Artificial intelligence assesses the environment and, if necessary, sends hazard warning signals to the locomotive driver, and if a person does not respond to them, the system independently makes the necessary decisions. 2022: Start of mass production
The company Cognitive Pilot (a subsidiary of Sber and Cognitive Technologies) on January 25, 2022 announced the start of mass production of the assistance system for the driver of a shunting railway locomotive based on artificial intelligence ( AI) technologies Cognitive Rail Pilot. The system is designed to bring the safety level to the railway to a qualitatively new level.
One of the key global problems of the global railway industry transport is ensuring traffic safety and safety. According to to data the National Bureau of Safety at the railway, transport USA accidents involving people or vehicles occur almost every 2 hours. Analysts and industry experts believe that one of the significant causes of railway accidents is the human factor, which results in multibillion-dollar losses, including the restoration of infrastructure.
Experts around the world say in one voice that robotic train control processes can solve the problem of traffic safety. The profession of a driver is one of the most difficult and dangerous - work has to be at the limit of opportunities. Robots will allow you to remove the routine load from the driver and provide assistance in emergency situations. With the start of serial deliveries of our Cognitive Rail Pilot, we are confident that the level of safety of shunting operations on the railway will reach a qualitatively new level, with a decrease in the number of incidents to 70%. The economic model of using the system gives a quick payback due to an increase in the rhythmicity of the operation of locomotives, "says Olga Uskova, CEO of Cognitive Pilot. |
The global market for autonomous railway control systems is dynamically developing. According to Visiongain analysts, as of January 2022, its volume is more than $7 billion and by 2031 it will exceed 21 billion with an annual dynamics of 11.4%.
For the possibility of serial production of the Cognitive Rail Pilot system, Cognitive Pilot obtained all the necessary permits: a declaration of compliance with the requirements of the technical regulations of the Customs Union "On the Safety of Railway Rolling Stock" (TR TS 001/2011), as well as a declaration of compliance with the safety requirements of information of the Federal Service for Technical and Export Control (FSTEC). The obtained permits allow the company to start serial deliveries of the Cognitive Rail Pilot system in addition to the territory of Russia, as well as to Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.
To obtain permits and confirm compliance with the established industry standards, standards and requirements for the safety of railway rolling stock and information security, the Cognitive Rail Pilot system underwent tests and examinations provided for by industry standards in Russian Railways accredited organizations, specialized laboratories and test centers almost throughout 2021.
Among them, research was carried out on the source code of the Cognitive Rail Pilot software, testing and testing of the hardware according to dozens of parameters: electromagnetic compatibility, noise immunity, vibration resistance, compliance with climatic standards, resistance to moisture.
It is important that Cognitive Rail Pilot managed to achieve a high level of accuracy in detecting dangerous objects and situations, the system is able to ensure the safety of the locomotive in all weather conditions (rain, snowfall, fog or at night) in which the rolling stock of Russian Railways operates, with a temperature range from - 40 ° to + 50 °.
A year earlier, Cognitive Rail Pilot passed a set of sea trials on rolling stock. Smart locomotives with a driver assistance system traveled for more than 300 hours in experimental mileage mode with the participation of company specialists and more than 5000 hours of controlled operation without their presence, and proved that all technical characteristics correspond to those stated in the TA.
2020: Plan for the manufacture of more than 2 thousand Cognitive Rail Pilot complexes
On December 9, 2020, it became known that the subsidiary of Sber and Cognitive Technologies plans to manufacture more than two thousand complexes equipped with artificial intelligence. The main task of autopilots will be to reduce the number of PE due to the human factor. More details here.
