Second place in the ranking of the world's largest manufacturers of autopilots for tractors

On August 20, 2024, Market Research Intellect, a marketing and analytical agency, published a rating of the world's largest manufacturers of autopilot systems for tractors. In second place in this list was the Russian Cognitive Pilot.

The authors of the study estimate the volume of the market under consideration at $38.57 billion with dynamics at 11.5%. Analysts believe that in the period from 2023 to 2031, growth rates will increase, which is associated with several factors. One of them is technological advances that "revolutionized the market for automatic steering systems for tractors." Other drivers of the industry are the increase in the efficiency of farmers, the growing consumer demand for smart solutions, agricultural investments in infrastructure, as well as the entry of developer companies into the markets of emerging economies.

It is noted that Cognitive Pilot became the only Russian developer of autopilot systems for tractors that was included in the Market Research Intellect rating. Other significant players in the industry include John Deere, Case IH, eSurvey GNSS, FieldBee, Comnav Technology, XAG, Qianxun Spatial Intelligence Inc., FJDynamic, UniStrong Science and Technology, SunNav Technology, CHC Navigation, Tersus GNULTBLE and TRIARL.

Olga Uskova, CEO of Cognitive Pilot, notes that the autopilot market for tractors is a dynamically developing segment. The attention of the world's leading analysts to it speaks of its significance, high economic indicators and a large contribution to the total volume of the global technological agro-market.

File:Aquote1.png
This is the strategic direction on which many issues of economic sustainability, food security, as well as the overall efficiency of agricultural facilities, personnel shortages, etc. depend today. It is very important that our country occupies a leading position in it, - said Uskova.[1]

Getting into the rating of the world's largest manufacturers of autopilots for agricultural machinery

The Russian company Cognitive Pilot has entered the list of the world's leading manufacturers of autopilot systems for agricultural machinery. This rating was published in July 2024 by the American and international marketing agency Verified Market Reports as part of the annual report on the state of the global market for autonomous control systems for agricultural equipment.

Cognitive Pilot became the only representative of Russia among 14 companies included in the list of industry leaders. Experts call the main advantage of the Russian developer the creation of the world's first industrial control system based on computer vision, capable of functioning without using a GPS signal. This ensures the stability of the autopilot in conditions of adverse weather events, solar activity and other factors that negatively affect satellite navigation.

Dynamics of the autopilot market for agricultural machinery

Olga Uskova, CEO of Cognitive Pilot, noted that independence from GPS technologies has become a key factor in determining the company's success in the international market.

File:Aquote1.png
Cognitive Agro Pilot is not only the world's first industrial computer vision-based control system, but also a solution capable of operating in the absence of a GPS signal. These are the most important competitive advantages that are confirmed today by the practice of using autopilots around the world, - said the head of the company at the end of July 2024.
File:Aquote2.png

In addition to achievements in the field of autonomous management of agricultural machinery, Cognitive Pilot also presented in 2024 a pre-industrial model of a fully autonomous cab-free mini-tractor controlled by artificial intelligence. This development, according to Uskova, has no analogues in the world and is designed to "radically change the concept of using agricultural machinery," ensuring a new level of quality and efficiency of agricultural work.[2]

2023: Sales start in China and South Africa

The Russian developer of autopilots for tractors and combines Cognitive Pilot is expanding the global geography of its sales, despite foreign policy factors. This was told by the general director of the company Olga Uskova in early June 2023.

File:Aquote1.png
So far, nothing has changed. When I asked my comrades from former friendly countries why everything continues with us, I was told that there are no analogues to our products. We now also have a serious presence and a large number of contracts in Brazil and Argentina. Latin America is a zone of our interests, we also began working in South Africa and China, she told Interfax.

Cognitive Pilot Expands Global Geography of Its Sales

According to Uskova, by June 2023, due to the foreign policy situation, Cognitive Pilot, despite the presence of contracts, stopped investing in projects in the United States - "since we do not understand how events will develop further."

File:Aquote1.png
Agreements made earlier continue to work. But it's hard for me to say how long this will last... They tell us in our face that we have a toxic origin, but because of our technologies they continue to cooperate, "added the CEO of Cognitive Pilot.
File:Aquote2.png

The price Cognitive is asking for its products gives it the opportunity to compete with American developments, the cost of which is often twice as high, said Smart Farming Club Chairman Bjerne Drexler.

According to MarketsandMarkets Research for 2022, the global market for unmanned tractors has about 44.8 thousand units. By 2025, the fleet of such equipment will grow to 61 thousand units of equipment with growth dynamics of about 25%. The volume of the unmanned tractor market was $2.6 billion in 2021 and will reach $11.6 billion by 2030 with a dynamics of 20.9%, analysts at Allied Market Research expect.[3]

Olga Uskova intends to attract an investor to accelerate the development of the autonomous driving system

Uskova did not disclose the cost of the package and the list of investors with whom negotiations are underway. Resource rbth.com notes that the goal of attracting investment is to speed up the process of entering global markets in order to keep up with competitors.

The main advantage of the developed C-Pilot solution, according to Uskova, is more advanced artificial intelligence compared to competitors, allowing the autonomous driving system to work well even in bad weather, as well as on roads without signs and with damaged road surfaces.

2016: C-Pilot System Starts Sales

In the summer of 2016, Cognitive Technologies announced the start of sales of the C-Pilot autonomous driving system. Commercialization of C-Pilot is assumed in two formats: the integration of technology into the systems of various automakers (OEM) and mass sales of the software and hardware complex.

As of 2016, Cognitive Technologies has completed the development of a driver warning system that helps monitor the situation on the road, warns of danger and monitors "blind spots." Testing of the system was carried out on a Nissan X-Trail car.

Nissan X-Trail with C-Pilot system installed

In addition to the software part, C-Pilot includes a complex of sensors: optical cameras, microwave radar, leddars and other sensors, wrote CNews. Together they are responsible for the comprehensive tracking of objects of the road scene in various spectrum ranges. The C-Pilot is also equipped with a high-precision positioning sensor GLONASS based on/and GPS an electronic gyroscope. The information is processed by a compact on-board computer.

The total investment in the project for three years should be about 750 million rubles.

Cognitive planned to develop the C-Pilot in three stages. At the first (until 2017), the company was going to complete the creation of functionality that allows you to warn the driver about situations on the road that require increased attention: warning of leaving the lane, recognizing road signs, warning about a possible collision, monitoring "blind spots," warning about hitting a pedestrian, etc.

At the second stage (2018), it was planned to implement a system of active driver assistance, involving interference with the car's systems (automatic steering, automatic braking, maintaining a safe distance to the car in front, etc., within the lane), with direct control of the traffic situation from the driver.

In the third stage (2019-2022), developers would like to refine technological components to ensure the possibility of autonomous movement in certain modes (for example, in traffic jams, on highways). The final stage in the development of the project should be to ensure the possibility of fully autonomous movement[7].
