2024: Plans for JV

On June 5, 2024, information appeared that the Scientific and Production Association "Critical Information Systems" (NPO CIS), which is part of the Rosatom state corporation, the Aquarius group and the GS Group holding intend to form a joint venture (JV) for the production of full-cycle printed circuit boards. Such products will be used in a wide range of devices and equipment - from telecommunications and computing equipment to industrial automation platforms and data storage systems.

According to the Kommersant newspaper, referring to information received from knowledgeable persons, the total investment in the joint venture will amount to "several tens of billions of rubles." To organize the production of printed circuit boards, a number of regions of Russia are considered.

JV for full-cycle PCB production established

The manufacturer's general director electronic engineers Fplus Alexei Melnikov clarifies that within the framework of the project, a platform will be created for the production of 7th class precision boards on 28 textolite layers. According to him, such products can be used in high-performance servers and other "high-precision" systems. Market participants believe that the first and main customer of the joint venture's products will be the Rosatom production ecosystem, while GS Group and Aquarius, in addition to providing money, will provide "production and logistics experience."

Dmitry Kornachev, executive director of the consortium of automotive devices, believes that Rosatom's participation in the project may be associated with the prospect of organizing serial production of the Atom electric car. The fact is that electric cars require on average up to 30% more printed circuit boards than machines with an internal combustion engine. At the same time, the founder of the SPC, Yaroslav Petrichkovich, says that GS Group, Aquarius and NGO KIS "work with complex digital technology, which requires a high class of boards and technologies." However, in his opinion, the participants of the joint venture may face "the absence in the Russian Federation of the equipment necessary for the production of these components, as well as materials and chemistry."[1]
