Sberbank-Technologies Joint-Stock Company (Sber Tech JSC, SBT) is a subsidiary of Sberbank that provides the bank with services for the development and implementation of software.

The need to create a separate company that will take over the functions of developing and implementing software, its first CEO Denis Kalinin in 2012 explained this way[1]"Being a department within Sberbank, the IT development team was subordinate to all internal processes of the bank. This is a unified system of motivation, hiring, dismissal of personnel, etc. At the same time, IT professionals need very different rules and corporate culture to work more efficiently. "

Sber Tech is a participant in the Skolkovo project in the category of research corporate center.

Revenue - 9,038,024 thousand rubles

At the end of 2019, the revenue of Sber Tech amounted to 9,038,024 thousand rubles.

9 thousand employees of Sber Tech moved to Sberbank. "Sber Tech" itself changes the focus of activity

In 2019, Sber Tech 's revenue decreased by 55% compared to 2018, to 9 billion rubles, follows from the company's financial reporting, published in the database of legal entities "Kontur. Focus." Since 2017, when the turnover of "Sber Tech" reached its maximum volume since the creation of the company, the decrease in this indicator by 2020 is more than three times.

The number of Sber Tech employees also decreased in 2019, from about 11 thousand people in 2018 to 2 thousand 168 people.

At the same time, after a sharp loss in 2018, in 2019 "Sber Tech" was again in the black: the company's net profit amounted to about 158 million rubles.

"Sber Tech" again went to profit and took up new projects "(photo -" Sber Tech "/Facebook page) "

The decline in revenue and staff began to occur after the management of Sberbank in 2018 decided to transfer 8 thousand employees from Sber Tech directly to the bank's staff. It was connected with the fact that as part of the next stage of the Agile-transformation of Sberbank's management system, product teams, developers and product owners physically worked together within the same process.

Sberbank-Technologies is developing Sberbank's technology platform. There were no employee cuts at Sberbank-Technologies. The scheme of work of employees of applied development was changed, they were transferred from Sber Tech to Sberbank. We can talk about a positive effect after the transfer of employees to Sberbank, - said TAdviser in the bank.
File:Aquote2.png

Along with the transfer of a significant part of the staff to Sberbank, in 2019 "Sber Tech" continued and in 2020 continues to hire specialists. At the same time, judging by the vacancies on recruiting sites, in addition to the tasks associated with the development of Sberbank's technological platform in the main areas, the company is working on a number of projects.

One of them is a project of an educational digital platform, follows from the description of one of the vacancies "Sber Tech" on the portal HH.ru. This is a SaaS training solution that allows you to automate various types of educational activities. According to Sber Tech, the current solution has already been implemented in secondary schools and in Bootcamp for company employees.

Also, as of July 2020, Sber Tech is forming a team of professionals to participate in a pool of federal-scale projects, in particular, in the GosTech project, indicated on HH.ru. This new system, which became known in the spring of 2020, is designed to expand the number of public services that citizens and businesses can receive remotely, deepen the digital interaction of government agencies with society and business, as well as increase digital interdepartmental document management[2].

File:Aquote1.png
For example, now we are developing pilot solutions for such organizations as the MHIF, the Ministry of Finance, Rosreestr, the Federal Property Management Agency, the implementation of the My Subsidies project for the Republic of Tatarstan, etc., the description of the July vacancy of the Java developer "Sber Tech" says.
File:Aquote2.png

It also says that the second direction of the GosTech team's work in Sber Tech is the development of platform services and their adaptation to work outside the bank's circuit. The task is to understand the source codes of platform services, ensure the acceptance of the next versions of services from Sberbank, provide the 2nd and 3rd lines of platform support, and be able to develop new services for the needs of the federal public sector.

Sber Tech also participates in projects to develop the AI transformation of Sberbank. For example, the company is working on a platform for creating and executing AI models - a comprehensive solution that allows you to execute machine learning models within various business processes. Model execution is used within the framework of automated decision-making, calculation of risk metrics, forecasting, text recognition, voice, images.

The employee's escape from the investigation in a criminal case

In October 2019, 26-year-old IT engineer of Sberbank-Technologies Aydar Gubaidulin escaped from Russia from the investigation. He was accused of attempted violence against policeman Artem Kilov (part 3 of article 30, part 1 of article 318 of the Criminal Code) for actions for admitting independent candidates to the Moscow City Duma on July 27. This is up to five years in prison.

According to investigators, Gubaidulin threw a bottle of water at the police who detained the protesters, which flew near Kilov, but did not hit anyone. The programmer himself said that he threw an already empty plastic bottle.

The programmer during interrogation said that he threw the bottle because he succumbed to an "emotional outburst" after seeing the gross detention of Boris Kantorovich, as well as the use of force against his girlfriend.

2018

Revenue collapse and loss

In 2018, for the first time in the history of the company, Sber Tech 's revenue decreased compared to the previous year and amounted to 20.5 billion rubles. The fall occurred by 32% or 10 billion rubles - a year earlier, revenue reached 30.3 billion rubles.

The decrease is due to the fact that during 2018 most of the employees (approximately 8 thousand out of 11 thousand) and Sber Tech projects were transferred directly to Sberbank (for more details, see below).

Along with the reduction of personnel in "Sber Tech" decreased and revenue

Also, for the first time in history at the end of the year, "Sber Tech" became unprofitable. The company has not brought serious profits before, working in the interests of the bank with a minimum margin, but in 2018 it went into minus by 339.9 million rubles.

New CEO of Sber Tech - Andrey Voinov

As TAdviser found out, in July 2018, Sber Tech CEO Andrei Khlyzov left his post and retired. It also no longer works in any other structures of Sberbank.

Khlyzov is 58 years old, he worked at Sberbank for 20 years, and before that he was a career military man, participated in the elimination of the consequences of the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. This explains his retirement before reaching the age of 60.

After Khlyzov left, Nikita Volkov, senior vice president and co-head of Sberbank's Technologies block, became the interim general director of Sber Tech. And Andrei Voinov, an experienced programmer, ex-director of software development at Peter-Service, has been appointed the permanent head of the company since August 1.

Voinov became the fourth head of Sber Tech since the creation of the company in 2011 (except for the interim director Volkov). According to a TAdviser source familiar with the situation at the bank, he will have to rehabilitate the company in the eyes of Sberbank's retail business, which was dissatisfied with the results of Sber Tech work on a business development support platform (platform 18 +).

IT managers of Sberbank explained the logic of transferring Sber Tech employees to the bank

In April 2018, TAdviser published information about Sberbank's plans to transfer about 8,000 of Sber Tech 's 11,000 employees to the bank's staff (see below). At that moment, Sberbank did not comment on the information, but in May they decided to answer TAdviser's questions. Senior vice presidents, co-leaders of the Technologies block Sberbank Nikita Volkov David Rafalowski and explained the reasons for this step and spoke about the further prospects for the development of Sber Tech (more).

A huge "Sber Tech" has disappointed Sberbank and will "lose weight" more than 2 times

In 2018, more than half of Sber Tech 's 11,000 employees will move to Sberbank, three sources familiar with these plans told TAdviser. A subsidiary of Sberbank's IT company can "lose weight" by 8,000 people, says one of the interlocutors. Thus, after the reorganization, no more than 3,000 employees will remain in it.

The decision has already been made and is designed to eliminate communication barriers between programmers and banking specialists who should work in teams based on the Agile methodology, say TAdviser interlocutors.

In addition, according to one of the sources, the bank hopes to simplify the administration of the development process - "you don't have to act, drive money, etc." The company conducts 600 projects a year and carries out 17 thousand implementations, according to its website.

After the reorganization, Sber Tech will focus on platform solutions - a single frontal system (EFS) and a platform for supporting business development (PPRB), and the bank's Agile teams will "wind up" business logic on them, one of the sources explains.

But managing IT competencies after their transfer to the bank will be more difficult, warns one of TAdviser's interlocutors.

The initiative to merge teams within the bank could belong to David Rafalowski, co-director of the Technologies block, who joined Sberbank from Citigroup in early 2018. Sber Tech employees are mainly planned to be transferred to this unit.

Rafalovsky's appointment coincided with the departure from Sberbank of Bart Schlatman, who had been appointed senior vice president for transformation of Sberbank a year earlier, one of TAdviser's interlocutors notes.

Sberbank President German Gref expected Schlatman to help turn the bank into a high-performance, efficient, reliable and flexible company. But the structure of SberGile turned out to be opaque in terms of management and motivation, the TAdviser source said.

Sberbank declined to comment, Sber Tech did not answer TAdviser's questions.

In 2017 , Alfa-Bank carried out a similar restructuring, transferring employees of the Alfa-Laboratory division, which specialized in digital products, to the bank's business units.

File:Aquote1.png
We do not want to continue to build a new culture only within the dedicated unit. We want to change and develop the entire bank. Therefore, we integrate many teams, processes and culture of Alfa-Laboratory into all business lines of the bank, - Alfa-Bank said then

Revenue increased by 10 billion rubles

In 2017, according to TAdviser, Sber Tech 's revenue amounted to 30.3 billion rubles, an increase of 10 billion compared to 2016.

The total amount that Sber Tech will pay for training services has more than halved relative to the initial amount - to 48 million rubles.

Services must be provided for 16 months.

New CEO of Sber Tech - Andrey Khlyzov

On June 9, 2017, Sberbank announced the appointment of Andrei Khlyzov to the post of senior vice president of Sberbank - general director of Sber Tech. In this position, he replaced Alisa Melnikova, who has worked for the company since 2013. More about the appointment - in the profile of Andrei Khlyzov on the TAdviser portal.

2016: Plan to hire 1,000 new employees

In April 2016, Sber Tech published a request for proposals[4] from organizations in order to choose a contractor to provide services for the search and selection of candidates for filling vacancies. The selection will be made among suppliers accredited based on the results of qualification selections, which Sber Tech conducted in December 2013 and in December 2015.

Sber Tech plans to summarize the results of the request for proposals in early May 2016. The contract with the contractor is designed for a period until the end of December 2016, follows from the tender documentation. The TOR for the request for proposals indicates that Sber Tech is ready to open a total of 975 vacancies: analysts, developers, architects, designers, development managers, technology strategists, line managers, specialists in various types of testing, project administrators, automation specialists, auxiliary production personnel, technical writers, etc.

Most of the new specialists are provided for the departments for the development of analytical solutions and system services, the development of frontal systems and electronic service channels, as well as the department for the development of ABS - 250, 260 and 140 people, respectively. In addition to these divisions, replenishment is also provided in the departments of automation of business processes, technologies of financial markets and risk management, the department of quality, project management and a number of other divisions.

"Sber Tech" continues to increase staff at a high pace

Sber Tech told TAdviser that the company has grown steadily throughout its existence by about 500 people per quarter in 16 cities of Russia due to the constantly growing number and complexity of Sberbank projects.

File:Aquote1.png
This dynamics remains now, especially given the opening of the bank's strategic programs to create a single frontal system and a new business development platform , Alisa Melnikova, general director of Sber Tech, noted in a conversation with TAdviser . - The rate of recruitment should decrease as the company's resource capabilities approach the requirements of customers in terms of volume and speed of development, but so far hiring is quite intensive.
File:Aquote2.png

Earlier, in February, Alisa Melnikova stated that in 2016 it was not planned to significantly expand the staff of Sber Tech. She noted that by the end of the year, the staff may not grow much due to the fact that the company plans to accelerate the launch of new products on the market while all labor resources are already fully occupied.

A source close to Sber Tech told TAdviser that in February Alisa Melnikova voiced the information available at that time. He explained that the project process of the company with Sberbank is arranged in such a way that at the beginning of the year there is an annual large balancing of the project portfolio. An appropriate funding limit is allocated for the portfolio, and hiring needs are laid for financing. Including the procurement procedure for potential hiring, but the limit is not a guarantee of an open project, the TAdviser interlocutor noted.

2015: Revenue growth by 1.5 times, staff - by 1,700 people

In February 2016, Sber Tech summed up its activities over the past year and shared its plans for the current year. According to TAdviser, the company's revenue in 2015 increased from 10.3 billion rubles. up to 15.2 billion rubles. Last year, the number of projects and implementations carried out by Sber Tech increased. According to the general director of Sber Tech, Alisa Melnikova, the company now has 532 projects for implementation against 450 in 2014. The number of implementations per month increased from 650 to 740 in 2015.

The project means the solution to the problem set by Sberbank, which entails the modernization of the IT landscape, Melnikova explained. It can last about three months to a year sometimes or more if a large amount of change is required. In turn, the implementation in "Sber Tech" is called, for example, the update and installation of an updated version of the software in the industrial environment.

In 2015, Sber Tech completed a number of major projects: Centralization 2.0, the implementation of a paperless middle office on the Pega PRPC platform ( the system employs 40 thousand users), the creation of a personnel management system based on an SAP solution , the creation of a prototype BigData platform , and the implementation of a program to improve the reliability of IT systems.

In 2014, the number of Sber Tech was about 4,800, and in 2015 it was planned to hire more than 1,000 new specialists. According to the general director of Sber Tech, the company employs 6515 people at the end of the year. Most of the specialists hired by Sber Tech in 2015 were Java developers, Melnikova told TAdviser: "Almost all of our projects require this kind of specialists to one degree or another. We have no problems with other specialists. "

In 2016, Sber Tech does not plan to significantly increase its staff, Melnikova added. According to her, by the end of the year, the state may not grow much due to the fact that the company plans to accelerate the introduction of new products to the market while all labor resources are already fully occupied.

Sber Tech 's plans for 2016 include a reduction in the timing of the launch of new products: that the development necessary for the withdrawal takes days, not months, explains Alisa Melnikova. Other plans - improving production efficiency, ensuring operational reliability.

In the line of reducing dependence on IT solutions of major global vendors, in addition to testings DBMS PostgreSQL the one that TAdviser previously talked about at Sberbank, Sber Tech also began testing technologies open source from a Russian-American company, GridGain whose shares Sberbank recently acquired.

2014: Revenue growth up to 10 billion rubles

Sber Tech 's revenue increased from 7 billion rubles in 2013 to 10.3 billion in 2014. The number of employees at the end of 2014 exceeded 4800 people (4413 in Russia and 400 in the Minsk office).

Among the most important and large projects of the past 2014, the company calls the implementation of the CRM system Oracle Siebel CRM. Also, in June 2015, it is expected to complete the program for the centralization of ABS Bank: as a result, all banking divisions will operate on a single ABS of their own design on the basis of tools obtained under an agreement with the Center for Financial Technologies (CFT).

In 2014, the share of Sber Tech in Sberbank's design solutions increased: according to the results of 2014, it was 63%, in 2013 - about 60%. As of June 25, 2015, Sberbank-Technologies accounts for 70%[5]

At the same time, according to Lev Khasis, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, we are talking about design tasks: this does not include payment for supporting licenses for products previously purchased from international vendors. Sberbank does not plan to abandon external developers, but at the same time is revising its strategy for using contractors, according to which there will be fewer external developers, and relations with them will be built on the basis of long-term agreements.

In
2014, the Bank opened its own department Information Technology at the base (MIPT Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology)

2013: Revenue growth of 57%

The revenue of Sber Tech in 2013 amounted to 7 billion rubles. against 4.438 billion rubles. a year earlier. Thus, over the year, this figure increased by 57.78%. At the same time, the staff of Sber Tech increased by 31.74%: from 2391 people in 2012 to 3150 in 2013.

In 2013, Sber Tech had almost 400 projects in operation, while in 2012 - about 250. This was due to the growth in numbers and revenue. Interestingly, the growth in revenue and staff of Sber Tech occurred against the background of a reduction in IT costs of Sberbank. Thus, in the first 9 months of 2013, the IT budget of the largest bank in Russia amounted to only 29.1 billion rubles. against 31.2 billion rubles. in the same period of the previous year (data for the whole of 2013 have not yet been disclosed)[6].

2012

Conflict with integrators over staff hunting

As of April 2012, Sberbank-Technologies already employs more than 800 people,[7] told CNews[7].

The company was registered in November 2011 for the purpose of conducting IT projects at Sberbank. At the same time, 400 employees from the banking department for the development of IT systems were transferred to it. Thus, over the past few months, the number of employees of the company has doubled.

"We do not plan to grow in number, but go from the client's request (Sberbank, - approx. CNews)," says Kalinin. Nevertheless, in 2012, "Sber Tech," according to him, can only increase the staff of up to 1,500 people in Moscow: "On this it will be possible to say that we will take the entire free personnel market in the capital."

"We do not want to warm up the market further and create a deficit, so we are actively developing in the regions," he continues.

To date, Sber Tech has already opened regional offices in Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Ryazan and Minsk. IT specialists who already worked at Sberbank were transferred to them.

"Our immediate plans are to open offices in Krasnoyarsk, Rostov on the Don, Samara, Nizhny Novgorod and some other cities where ready-made competencies have already been formed in Sberbank," says the general director of Sberbank-Technologies.

"We also attract talented specialists from the market," he adds. - We give people good salaries, set interesting tasks, provide long-term perspective. Sometimes this causes discontent among market participants. "

Denis Kalinin is aware of several facts of attempts by IT company leaders to turn their employees against Sber Tech in order to keep them in this way.

"We have no task - to kill someone," he says, addressing market participants. - We do not compete with any of the integrators or developers. But in some IT companies there are teams working only for Sberbank. And we are interested in these teams. We are ready to negotiate and buy them, or attract them in other ways. "

The working conditions at Sberbank-Technologies are incomparably more stable compared to companies operating on the open market, Kalinin believes: "Today the system integrator has a customer, but tomorrow it may not be. Our strategy is spelled out for several years in advance, and our client will not go anywhere from us. Therefore, we grow confidently and measure growth with client behavior. "

The main need for "Sber Tech" in personnel is project managers: "Sberbank is simultaneously introducing a huge number of systems, so we need hundreds of such specialists."

In addition, the company plans to increase its development function and for this, according to Kalinin, need programmers Java, SAP (ABAP), C and others.

"Here is one example of the situations we face: SAP consultants come to the bank, implement the system and leave. At the same time, a system for the transfer of knowledge and technologies is not created, - explains the general director of Sber Tech. "Therefore, we have to hedge and hire SAP specialists to take over the functions of further maintenance of implemented systems."

"In addition, often contractors do not keep up with our pace of development. They do not know how to work with such large customers as Sberbank, he continues.

Mass recruitment

"In 2012, we should form as a company and fully switch to commercial relations with the bank's business blocks," says Denis Kalinin. "We are assessed as a contractor - for the work performed."

At the end of 2012, Sber Tech should show profit, and Sberbank should record savings from the creation of a separate company, he adds. The number of employees in 2012 is planned to grow by another 50%, thus reaching 1200 people.

"Employees' salaries, if they exceed the market average, are no more than 15%," Kalinin said.

The task of gathering all specialists in Moscow, according to the general director, is not worth it: "We are creating competence centers in Minsk, St. Petersburg, Ryazan, Novosibirsk."

"For example, there are two universities in Minsk that train people on SAP and IBM WebSphere. In some cities of Russia, Sberbank already has teams. At the same time, earlier they worked only for their territorial bank, and now as part of Sberbank-Technologies they will be able to work for the entire Sberbank.

Development plans

"For some projects that provide for the development of IT systems, contractors will work with Sber Tech[1] promised[1] in March 2012. "We will do some things ourselves."

"The projects that we want to do on our own would be abandoned by most contractors ourselves," he said. - These are improvements to the implemented products and their support. It doesn't pay a lot for it.' The profitability of "Sber Tech," which Kalinin is counting on, "will be no high - less than 10%."

The share of Sberbank's expenses directed to Sberbank-Technologies is likely to increase, the general director hopes. But, at the same time, the total expenses of the bank for informatization will grow, so the income of contractors from the appearance of "Sber Tech" will not suffer significantly, he expects.

At the same time, according to Kalinin, Sber Tech is not an exclusive supplier of Sberbank: "We participate in tenders for new projects on a par with others. For example, they have now submitted to a competition to implement voice authentication in an alliance with several integrators. "

"The Contractor shall be selected by the Customer. He can come to us, or he can announce a competition. The bank takes a strict position, according to which everyone has equal rights, "says the head of Sber Tech.

"Initially, integrators were worried," he admits. "But now everyone understands that Sberbank is big, and everyone will have enough work in it."

2011: Establishing a Company

The fact that Sberbank is creating its own outsourcing IT company became known in May 2011. This was stated in an interview with CNews by Senior Vice President of the bank Orlovsky Victor. "We believe that the bank does not have to own, for example, computers in workplaces and other similar assets," he explained. "We want to transfer all this first to internal" outsourcing, "and then, possibly, to create a separate company that would provide IT services to the bank."

"The plans include the removal from the staff of the entire resource aimed at the development of IT, i.e. project managers, analysts and programmers," he said. "The creation of this company is aimed at supporting all changes in IT."

The emergence of Sberbank-Technologies is also due to a large number of simultaneously launched IT projects. "Now we are conducting more than 200 strategic projects at the same time - CRM, data storage, ERP, Internet bank and many others," Orlovsky listed. "They require a lot of human resources with our size, so we create a separate company. It will build a special motivation system focused on project activities. "

Orlovsky did not rule out that the new company will provide IT services to third parties. "For example, a client-bank or an Internet bank does not have to be tied to a specific bank: it can be tied to a service consumer," says a top manager. - Now a client of several banks uses several Internet banks. It is possible that we should transfer this environment not to the bank, but to the client. Then he will be able to manage his numerous accounts in different banks. This kind of public cloud can develop in our bank. "

"We are also thinking about providing infrastructure services. For example, for some time there will be free space in data centers, because we are building our own data center with a margin. We will probably be able to outsource the infrastructure - this is also one of the possible areas of our activity. "

In early July 2011, it became known that Kalinin Denis Vyacheslavovich headed the company.

In 2011, the company rented an office in the Danilovsky Fort business center

In October 2011, Sberbank Technologies signed a long-term lease agreement at the Danilovsky Fort business center, located on Novodanilovskaya embankment in Moscow, the[8].

Sberbank-Technologies began operating on November 1, 2011, says the source of CNews in its leadership.

In the reporting for the 3rd quarter of 2011, Sberbank officially disclosed information about Sberbank-Technologies for the first time. Its main activity is software development, the document says. The company is 100% owned by Sberbank.

Four managers who joined the board of directors of Sberbank-Technologies are shareholders of Sberbank, according to its report. These are Victor Orlovsky, Alexey Katrich and Andrey Khlyzov, who are engaged in informatization, as well as Denis Bugrov.

Denis Kalinin noted that the company considers both organic and non-organic growth. He said that "Sber Tech" has plans to acquire small companies in the regions - developers and analysts: "We may be interested in teams with a finished product. It is important to note that we do not buy the cash flows that the company generates, but the team. "

In addition, according to Kalinin, Sberbank-Technologies is also negotiating with integrators to buy existing teams from them.
