The Department of Unmanned Systems and Robotics was created in the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation to implement the tasks of the specialized national project "Unmanned Aircraft Systems." This was reported in the department at the end of January 2024.

Within the framework of the new industry department, work will be carried out to implement the tasks of the specialized national project "Unmanned Aerial Systems," coordinate the implementation of state civil and defense orders for the production of UAVs. Also, the new department will ensure the development and support of the robotics industry (with the exception of industrial robots, the production of which will continue to be supervised by the Department of Machine Tools and Heavy Engineering of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia), the ministry said in a statement, excerpted by RIA Novosti.

The curator of the new department will be Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Vasily Shpak. Previously, there was no separate UAV unit in the structure of the Ministry of Industry and Trade; First Deputy Minister Vasily Osmakov dealt with this topic in the ministry within the framework of the specialized national project.

According to Alexei Semenov, Chairman of the Board of Geoskan Group of Companies, the creation of a separate drone control for the Ministry of Industry and Trade actually marks the emergence of "a new industry that is incredibly promising, technologically rich and attractive." The market needs special regulation, special infrastructure and training systems. The agency's initiative will accelerate the development of the industry and bring closer the emergence of new products that are critical for the country, Semenov said.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that the development of a number of promising industries, as well as the registration of new areas in the Russian economy, such as unmanned technologies and robotics, require structural adaptation of regulators.^[1]
