2025: Appointment of Ayrat Tukhvatullin as Director

Airat Tukhvatullin has been appointed Director of the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (NOVAT). This was reported in December 2025 by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation. He replaced Ara Karapetyan, who headed NOVAT since January 2018, in this post. Prior to his appointment, Tukhvatullin directed the Nizhny Novgorod State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after A.S. Pushkin. At different periods, he headed the Sergei Bezrukov Theater, the Moscow Theater of the Moon, the Drama Theater in Yaroslavl, worked as the first deputy artistic director - director of the Chekhov Moscow Art Theater. 2023: Mikhail Tatarnikov became the musical director of the theater

In October 2023, Mikhail Tatarnikov became the new music director and chief conductor of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theater. Previously, this position was held by the artistic director of the theater Dmitry Yurovsky. Addressing the team, he noted that due to circumstances, he could not constantly be in Novosibirsk, and the theater should constantly develop.

Tatarnikov has been collaborating with NOVAT since 2016, under his direction opera and ballet performances "Tosca" by Puccini, "Carmen" by Bizet, "Romeo and Juliet" by Prokofiev, "Sleeping Beauty" by Tchaikovsky and others were performed there.

Mikhail Tatarnikov

Mikhail Tatarnikov graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in two specialties: violinist and conductor. He was behind the console at the Mariinsky Theater, worked as music director - chief conductor of the Mikhailovsky Theater and was the artistic director of international music festivals in the castle of Valroz (Nice, France) and in San Marino. He conducted in foreign theaters, including La Scala, Opera Bordeaux, Bavarian Opera, Comische Oper of Berlin and others.
