History

2024: Rosatom bought Steklonit

The largest Russian fiberglass manufacturer Steklonit JSC came under the control of the state corporation Rosatom. This became known in early December 2024. The amount of the transaction for the acquisition of 95% of the company's shares and 100% shares in Steklonit Management LLC is estimated at ₽4,89 billion.

According to Kommersant, the acquired company, founded in Ufa in 1993, specializes in the production of structural, construction reinforcing and composite materials. The acquisition of Steklonit strengthens Rosatom's position in the composite division after the purchase in 2022 of Russian and Belarusian assets of the American company Owens Corning, including the Fiberglass plant in Gus-Khrustalny and the Paroc enterprise in the Tver region, specializing in the production of stone wool.

Rosatom bought glass fiber manufacturer Steklonit with revenue of ₽3,16 billion

According to Mikhail Burmistrov, General Director of Infoline Analytics, Rosatom's share in the fiberglass market after these acquisitions exceeded 40%. These materials are widely used in energy, housing and infrastructure construction. Among the large customers of the products is Rosavtodor.

Rosatom General Director Alexei Likhachev stressed that all areas of the corporation's development, in addition to nuclear power and state defense orders, are the third point of support for business. According to Rosstat, the volume of production of fiberglass products in Russia in January-October 2024 increased by 1.3% and reached 95.1 million cubic meters.

Before the sale, Steklonit was part of the Ruskomposit group, where 51% belongs to Sergei Fakhretdinov and 49% to Elena Holina. The management company "Steklonit Management" showed revenue of ₽2,17 billion in 2023, while net profit decreased to ₽20,8 million. Experts note that in order to form a comprehensive portfolio, Rosatom has only to master the production of glass wool.[1]
