2024: 1,454 robots and unmanned personnel. How is the digitalization of the East Siberian Railway

The East Siberian Railway (VSZhD) is actively introducing digital technologies, including software robots and unmanned vehicles, as part of the digital transformation strategy of Russian Railways. This became known in August 2024. There are 1,454 software robots in operation of Russian Railways, performing about 2.5 thousand routine operations.

According to the newspaper "Oblastnaya," the digitalization of the National Railways is aimed at increasing the speed of data processing, speeding up customer service and reducing the number of routine operations. Alexey Ogorodnikov, head of the production department of the Irkutsk Information and Computing Center of Russian Railways, noted that software robots work faster than humans and can function around the clock without interruptions.

Digitalization of the East Siberian Railway includes 1454 robots and unmanned vehicles

The Main Computing Center of Russian Railways has developed 972 scenarios of chat bots on 443 information systems. Since 2020, the Irkutsk Information and Computing Center has created 76 software robots for its own needs, of which 24 are in operation.

An automated system "Virtual Consultant" is being introduced at the All-Russian Railways, allowing users to receive advice on working in information systems. In the second quarter of 2024, more than 24 thousand calls passed through this system, which is 41% of the total number of requests to the Unified Service for Support of Users of the National Railways.

Particular attention is paid to the digitalization of the Baikal-Amur Railway. Until 2025, it is planned to equip BAM stations with automated systems for commercial inspection of trains and cars with laser scanners. In 2024, such systems will be installed at the stations Korshunikha-Angarskaya, Lena, Severobaikalsk and Taksimo.

The East Siberian Center for Innovative Development, together with the Irkutsk Center for Diagnostics and Monitoring of Infrastructure Devices, is working on the implementation of sensors for monitoring sedimentary deformations and displacement of the roadbed. The experimental site for equipment testing is located on the Kholodnaya - Kichera stretch at BAM.[1]
